I'm a casual fan. Usually buy the albums, but that's all.
Half of their stuff is great, the other half I find hard work, but overall they are pretty decent.
Love U2 but have only seen them once which was the Popmart Tour in Botanic Gardens, Belfast. Favourite albums would be Unforgetable Fire & Achtung Baby.

I hate myself for liking a lot of their songs, and owning a couple of albums, and one of the best-ofs, and seeing their live performances on TV. But every time Bono starts on one of his causes, however well-meaning he may be, I just get pissed and turn it back to porn :p
I wouldn't ever go see them live...unless the girl I was trying to have sex with wanted to see them and was a big fan. Then I'm so totally there (but hating myself every minute for it) 
I actually like most of their material, and anyone on this site who doesn't is just afraid that their wife would rather fuck Bono than themselves.
The first 2 albums were ace. Joshua tree have some good songs.
But, nah. Not a fan at all. Really.

I think they'd have to do 7 nights at the Odyssey to satisfy demand. I think they'd draw the line at that. They're not Westlife.
It all went wrong after JT - They believed far too much of the shite that was being written about them. Much in the same way Depish went.
Love most of the stuff uptae about 88 - don't get me wrong they've had a few good songs since then, just not enough to make me want to listen / buy one of their albums.
As fer seeing the basta's live. I seem to remember back about 91, it was £30/35 to see the Mondays / Electronic / Roses etc... U2 were charging 150% more than that. They love their fans, aye right, the rich one's!
Anyways best album is the live album, Under a Blood Red Sky. This song is not a rebel song. Maybe not, but it still annoys all the huns in the pub when we put it on the juke box :D
£60 for a ticket this summer. and that was standing, seating was more expensive, up to and over £100.
i agree with the shugster, pretty average after 88. I think their last 3 albums have mostly been boring and overplayed shite (beautiful day and vertigo, does anyone know of any songs more marketed than these two?)
Live, well the fancy light show is all well and good, effectively disguing that bono's voice is really going. And throughout most of the gigs, there is one of the richest people around, slagging everyone off for not doing enough to help the worlds poor. Boo bloody hoo.
And they wont be playing belfast. From what i understand, after the North American leg of the tour, thats its until the next one. Why waste time playing Europe when you can spend all your time sucking up to the americans? Of course, why any band would want to play Belfast, i dont know.

My thoughts exactly Shug. I never did buy JT. I stopped at The Unforgiveable Fart. A good chill out lp. I saw Rattle and Hum and may have purchased that cd used. But after that all shit rolling downhill. But that live lp is awesome. Too bad Eno fucked them up.
As for ticket prices, what a bunch of twats. Spit!
Found this this summer at a friend's house. $5 when they were good and had no ego issues or Jerusalem Syndrome.

For all the comments about the North,they've very rarely played up here. Before Botanic, the last time was 10 years before that, at the Kings Hall, on The Joshua Tree tour. Someone waved a San Francisco flag (SF) and Bono got pissed off, because he thought it was a Sinn Fein flag.

They were the first band I got into. Bought Boy, and never looked back.
But the thing is Chris, the audience in Belfast DONT appreciate it. And i should know, i saw a few quality bands while i lived over there, only the hype bands of the day (strokes, snow patrol) got any crowd reaction at all. If you can be bothered digging out my comments i've made on this previously somewhere in the thread archives.
But a couple of examples:
Snow Patrol: no reaction to any song apart from Run. Strokes: no reaction to any song except Last Nite Doves: Little reaction anything Ordinary Boys: No one there hardly! Inspiral Carpets: Ditto.
Anyway, i've seen u2 now. Probably the biggest band in the world right now, wont need to see them again. Although if they did a set consisting of stuff up to and including 1987, and no later, i might re consider.
