But, what is it? When do you eat it, and together with what, and why?

As I never touch the stuff, check this out

Marmite

Like it says, you either love it or hate it. There is no in-between.

Food of the Gods! Marmite and Vegemite are ace. :thumb:

But there is a slight difference between the two, isn't there?

look, lets get things straight, marmite is the bastard son of vegemite, many will claim that they are one in the same, they will point to the ingredients on the jar and say look LOOK?. but vegemite is the best, not only that it can double up as an additive to gravy or loads of sauces, bolognaise in particular. ooooh im off befeore i start going all jammie oliver.

Opinion varies on Marmite. I love it, everyone else I know hates it. Their loss. :thumb:

Now I'm marooned in Yankland I even get my ma to send it to me on a regular basis.

You had it easy. Me and my brother were living off sugar sandwiches by the end of the week when we were kids. It was the only food we had left in the house. Those were the days.

As for Marmite, it tastes like shit.

Down this way, Vegemite dominates morning toast activity while over in New Zealand, Marmite is the spread of choice.

Personally, I've made the transition to Promite. The weird bastard cousin of the other two.

Must admit I prefer Vegemite....despite the manufacturer being owned these days(Via Nabisco) by a cigarette-producing multinational(by making that statement you'll probably deduce I'm a semi-militant non-smoker). Marmite is manufactured by a company (Sanitarium) that is a corporate front for Veggie Christians 'R' Us(AKA the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, so in some respects that church's elders would consider Marmite more blessed by the Big G).

My daughter loves cheese on toast (1 slice of bread) sandwiched together with another slice of toast with marmite on. (Heave ho!) It's slightly more bearable than recalling watching my Nan eating dripping on toast for Sunday supper.......... (with the fat from the Sunday Roast); now that is absolutely revolting. As are tinned peaches with evaporated milk I suppose - or tinned fruit cocktail! Ooooh, the memories you have stirred within!

Food of the Gods of the underworld maybe.

My theory is that marmite was delivered unto us by a meteor and it kind of oozed out as some weird alien parasite. People who love it are merely those who are INFECTED.

Lots of words I don't know here, but still ;)

Marmite means "pot" in french, and, hum, by that I do not mean marijuana.

I'm living in North America, so it's peanut butter and orange plastic cheese slices on my toasts for me ;)

Although I was quite surprised.. when I went to Florida, I couldn't find any croissant in their grocery stores... :confused2:

Marmite.Good.Yes!

I have been known to make it a snack on its own - just grab a knife and dip it in. Bootiful.

Twiglets are ace too! I thought they are made with marmite in them in the first place?
