Have you ever thought about imitating/ following/ plaguerizing Ian's suicide... maybe have been a little bit inspired at some time in their life...?

c/mon, be honest, i know it is a uncomfortable question, and imitating Ian's suicide could be thought as unrespectful to Ian, and maybe downright tacky or immature... maybe for some of you your life is so valuable and wonderful and all that b.s. but many people fantasize about suicide in their life, at least pretend at some point.

i know somebody will argue otherwise, but i can't see where the "courage" is in living a valueless life to the end, why is that brave?

those who have already killed themselves in homage/ imitation to Ian cannot of course comment on this...

I believe we've had enough suicide threads for now. If anybody is thinking about it, don't do it. I can not think of any worse reason for a human life to end, then trying to imitate some celebrity's death. Talk to your friends, talk to your family. Professional help is availiable for those who need it. See the other thread.

Have I thought about it? In the most warped, comedic way possible - but I can't bear to watch Stroszek again (because I find it a suck movie).

One of my friends bought it, and I watched it in that hazy "Ah, jeez, this is a tainted film" way because I'd just read Touching... the week after it'd come out (the first time).

Ironically, this was also the same friend who (knowing absolutely nothing about Ian Curtis and Joy Division) a year later topped himself in his garage, and I was the lottery winner for cutting him down. His own mother couldn't even come into the room again after calling me up in hysterics.

He could have at least waited a week because he owed me 20$ on a bet we had about junior prom.

Oh and FWIW, all that stuff...the books, or watching that movie for the sake of it or ANY of that sort of personal stuff about any of them not just Ian, holds, if not no interest then certainly no fixation. I could, if it existed, read a 100 pages on how Gillian operated the voyetri on TPK, but would bore very quickly of details of Ian's personaly life. It seems a little....mmmmm oh I dunno....culty

I lost a friend to suicide. He left many notes his last week quoting Joy Division. Totally fuking selfish act. But God did not give his brains the chemicals neccessary for a balanced happy life and doctors merely prescribed him antidepression pills. Hung himself with a novelty noose another friend gave him. Jesus Christ Jeff E why did you give Russ that noose? So Jeff is fucked up with guilt. The funeral was on a very cold day. They combed his hair in a manner he never wore it in. There was a preacher that told outrageous lies about Russ to comfort his family. Fucked up. Totally fucked up.

In my moments of depression, yeah, it has crossed my mind. But that's just part of life. All these pills that are advertised on the basis that "depression is just bad!" actually numb you to a very important fact of life. Which is, sometimes shit happens.

It's what you do about it that determines whether you slip the noose on or go out and have a nice day and try to get on with it.

I always used to think I'd end up more like John Lennon, really. I mean, when I first got into the Beatles and starting reading about John's life (after a misguided effort to idolize Sir Paul), I noticed all sorts of similarities which (and I'm almost embarassed to admit this) led me to believe that I'd be gunned down in my early forties by a deranged fan of whatever it is I ended up doing. Of course, the band never really took off (not that there ever was one), and I don't go looking to get myself shot by anyone, much less a looney who supposedly likes what I do (which as of this point consists of keeping the shelves in dairy and frozen full). So I guess I grew out of that phase...hmm, who's that deranged-looking customer with the gun...

Anyway, the short answer is "yes, but only because sometimes it gets to you". Obviously I haven't, and I doubt that I will. Unless, of course, I had to choose between that or listening to Clay Aiken's music...trying to end on a joke, people!

Without getting morbid, why imitate someone's suicide? Make it unique! Okay, I'll stop there, because I don't want to give anyone ideas. Plus, I want to be sensitve to those who've lost someone to this before.

medication is a treatment but not a solution. if one doesn't go to therapy and attempt to lead a healthy lifestyle, taking meds is most likely for naught.

I agree with the Agent that medication is not a panacea. the medication is there to help one get on with one's life. however, some meds may actually make you much feel worse. if they do it imperative that the patient is in constant communication with their doctor, until the right one is found.
