No Cities allowed if your playing, only districts of those Cities...

Redcar had the World's First Lifeboat..The Zetland Lifeboat. It saved hundreds of seamen, and is still intact to this day.Sturdy as Fuck:thumb:

Anything great about your town?

The reason i bring this up is because the Charity life boat (For non Brits.. its a charity box)was nicked out of our works canteen by some lowlife..and the canteen ladies put a notice up saying "To whoever stole the lifeboat,we hope you drown scum"..And they wer'nt messing around!!

Its awful to think its someone I'm working with, so it tends to be the contractors that drift in and out, that get blamed when these sort of things happen..Tho this is probably a new low in our place...:\ohwell:

We have Eddie Irvine. One of the forces for the Battle of the boyne and that bullshit landed in Groomport harbour (we're all one big happy town) And bangor bay/belfast lough was one of the dtagin points for D-Day.

Oddly enough, I donate me fiver a month to the lifeboats, and even when I had no money coming in, I somehow always managed to pay that :)

i figure it's only a matter of time before I need them with all the time I spend by the sea.

Stoke-on-Trent gave us Stan Matthews, Lemmy, Slash and his endless fucking guitar solos, big fat pieman Robbie Williams, Candyflip(!), the captain of the Titanic (no, really) and the finest fucking ceramics known to man.

Market Drayton - small town in North Shropshire where I went to School - was once the home of that Moseley bloke who invented British Fascism. He formulated all his key ideological motifs while living in Drayton, and every village within a 20-mile radius has the story of when Moseley rose in and gave a speech (and invariably prompted a riot).

In family-friendly fashion, the town now claims to be the 'home of gingerbread'.......

i can't remember what Woltmershausen is famous for, but my handball team kicked arse, ah the good old TSW. every year we went up a league. one of our guys liked to intimidate the opposition's goalie, by throwing a ball so hard against the wall that it deflated. that always did the trick.

Impressive...Lemmy? Really? :) u know who Oswald Moseley's kid is of course?

EDIT: Ron reminded me. Mentioned it before but it's true. you know that clip you see on all those "greatest retards in sport" shows, of the goalie, playing in this pitifully grotty little ground, pitching the ball, by hand into the back of his own net by accident? guess where guess who's Goalie the shame, the shame

Also add Nick Hancock, TV footballing pundits Garth Crooks, Robbie Earle and Mark Bright, ex radio one DJ, Bruno Brookes, RJ Mitchell, designer of the Spitfire.

In locality terms, TV presenters, Anthea and Wendy Turner grew up half a mile away from me. What happened to them after their 15 minutes of fame?

Warrington:

An NO gig.

Chris Evans (oh dear).

Blown up by the IRA (oh dear again).

Mr. Smiths nightclub of the 'Hitman and Her' fame; opened around the same time as the Hac; but with a lot more white bloated thread veined legs.

Home of Pete Waterman.

Close to the home of Rick Astley (oh dear again).

Lots of people from Warrington seem to get lost up mountains and appear on TV quiz's out of all proportion to the size of the population.

It has RAF Burtonwood which became the largest US airbase in Europe in WW2. It played a key role during World War ll and then again for the Berlin airlift.

Warrington Museum has a Mummy in it.

Straddles the Mersey.

Lewis Carrol was born there.

And most importantly; very close to Salford.

estes park, colorado's claims to fame:

  1. in 1977 stephen king wrote 'the shining' in the stanley hotel, inspired by the hotel, its haunted history and its surroundings (they didn't film the movie there as the stanley isn't isolated enough and there wasn't enough snow, but the mini-series was filmed there).

  2. the stanley brothers--inventors of the stanley steamer in 1897, one of the first motorcars and the 1906 winner of the world land speed record. apparently jay leno drives a stanley steamer to work every day. the brothers also built the stanley hotel (see above), and f.o. stanley supposedly still haunts the hotel (the inspiration for stephen king's novel).

  3. the birthplace of the american credit union movement (hurrah! as i belong to a credit union and not a bank).

  4. estes park serves as the eastern entrance point for rocky mountain national park, through which runs trail ridge road, the world's highest contiguous highway--reaching altitudes of over 12,000 ft.

  5. unfortunately, estes park is also known as the place where the racist christian identity militia movement organized itself. in 1992 a group of over 150 klansmen, posse comitatus members, neo-nazis and others met in estes to organize and unite against the government. out of this came the oklahoma city bombing in april, 1995. joy!

  6. estes park is home to the world's largest YMCA: the YMCA of the rockies. it covers thousands of acres and has a bowling alley, ice skating rink, a hotel, cabins, hiking trails, and so forth. you can get yourself clean, have many good meals and do whatever you feel when you stay at the YMCA of the rockies.

Céline Dion lives in Laval

If that is a claim to fame... I honestly don't see a lot more else to say about this Island, which is a city merged from 10 towns 30 years ago and is a huge island north of the island of Montreal. Laval has probably around 300K people living on it... (Laval is the surname of a high priest that colonized our province a long time ago)

Obviously, there's more to say about Montreal itself... that would start with the worst olympic debt of all time

Is being the home of Celine Dion a claim to fame? I don't know, but it IS enough to get you Primary Nuclear Target status I would think. :D

And for Montreal's debts...I shouldn't think they'll be the worst for too much longer. Good old London will win hands down (look how much they spent on a tent no one wanted that they then had to pay to get rid of...can you imagine what such a shower of cunts as the UK Govt. will do with the Olympics? :nonono:

My town's claim to fame is that the Declaration of Independence was written there and Betsy Ross sewed the first flag here. But, more recently, "12 Monkeys," "The Sixth Sense," and "Philadelphia" were filmed here. Fat Albert and Bill Cosby are also from Philly, as well as Eve and Beanie Siegel and G Love and Special Sauce. My town is also known for having sports teams that never win - Flyers, Sixers, Phillies, Eagles - and crap sports complexes and crappier sports fans. In addition, Philly is known for the cheese steak and scrapple - probably why it was the fattest city in the US about 4 years ago. We're known nationally for also being the city on the east coast where heroin and crack are extremely cheap and plentiful, if you venture into the Badlands.

my bigger home town of Bremen is the oldest contionous existing republic in Germany (except for the third reich). even today it is aproud city state. it is the second largest harour in germany. it used to build all kinds of ships from cruise liners to supertankers. it is the home of Werder Bremen. famous landmrks include a stature of the Bremen Town musicians. (if anybody remembers their Grimms fairy tales, they never actually made it to Bremen), and a tall stature of a Roland (known as Orlando in latain counries), who the citizens defiantly set up facing the cathedral, so he would protect the city's liberty.

We're arguably the gayest city in the United States, have Coit Tower, an overgrown Ionian pillar dedicated to the monumental phalli of SF firemen, the only city in the U.S. to have its very own emperor, the island fortress prison Al Capone went batshit with syphillis in, and finally home to the police department that could never track down the Zodiac Killer.
