True story: when Dare came out and I picked up the cassette, I wondered what the band had against U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Get Carter? Why?
Another true story: along with Dare, which proudly listed on the sleeve that it was made entirely with synths, another '80s fave of mine was Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind, which proudly listed on the sleeve that no synths were used on the record. 'course, Human League won that one, and Maiden broke down a couple of records later and added synths to the mix.
I saw em a Staffod Bingley Hall and in Paris on the Dare tour. I even had a fully fledged Phil Oakey haircut.
Now then who can get me to post a pic of that :)

It would just be much easier if every artist just tried out synths before denouncing them, and see how they could add to their sound. I happened to watch Amadeus over the weekend, and my guy and I were discussing what Mozart would have performed in present times... he'd have been the ultimate synthman.

I adore that album and Dare has got to be my all time favourite album ever.

I think the Human League were having a go at Queen ,who used to write ' no synthesisers ' on their early album sleeves , the implication being that they ( Queen ) were 'real ' musicians and could do without the new technology , as time wore on they probably added synths and bigger hair , too late however to be namechecked in song by the Undertones , an honour accorded to the League on ' My perfect Cousin ' Sartorialy a fishtail parka is much prefered to a bubble perm and dirtydens ex on yer arm , the League knew this even before it happened

Funnily enough, just started reading this thread, and with my NEW headphones on - Sound of the Crowd - ooh; I loved Human League in their earlier days, although I thought Louise was great - that's the song, not the footballers wife! How deep could Phil Oakley go, so to speak.....and Diggy, you may have had a Phil going on there, but I had the blonde one's hair - and unfortunately, make up going on at that time... and the dance.........oh dear. Think I'll just shut up now............if you post yours, I'll post mine! I'll even throw in my two tone pics as well..... harrington jacket, monkey boots, white braces the lot! (maybe not eh?) And I smoked then............

Still love DARE because it brings back a lot of memories. You could go to any party round then and guarantee that DARE would get played,and (unfortunately) BAT OUT OF HELL! Love the LEAGUE UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA - Love & Dancing too,would get this on CD!

fookin ace love n dancing out again,wasnt it origanly credited to the "league unlimited orchestra"? either road both albums still kick the shit out of most stuff today.
They recently re-released a remastered edition of Dare with Love And Dancing attached. Track it down, it's the mutts nuts.
Saw them live last month and they still kick arse. Phil Oakey is uber cool, but someone really needs to tell the girls to stop taking themselves so seriously and dress their age...

Yeah that'll be "Love & Dancing" by The League Unlimited Orchestra.Basically it's the League plus Martin Rushent and a couple of other boffins producing an alter-Dare with instumentals and lots of electro effects.One music paper called it "music to watch Ceefax to"!!
The synth at the end of Crystal always reminds me of Sound of The Crowd for some wierd reason.

Dare is the third best Human League album after 'Reproduction' and 'Travelogue'.
I saw the first 'live' concert by the League with the girls at Doncaster Rotters - fooking hell!
I first saw the (real) Human League at Hull City Hall with 99 other people.
In an interview last week (I think) Phil Oakey said that the current incarnation of the band had reached it's natural end. Hallelluljah! Hopefully they'll get the original League back together and kick some electro ass.
I downloaded Dare this morning, and it's even better than I remembered. Great songs and fantastic arrangements, considering they were working with synths that (1) could maybe play four notes at once and (2) gave you a choice of sine wave, square wave, or sawtooth wave. Bzzzzt or boooop.
I saw them in Erics about a million years ago with the first line up. They had slides showing and there was about 15 people there. I do love early league but by Dare I'd lost interest. I did take the missus to see them in December in Southport. She loves the Dare stuff and I was happy as they did Marianne and being boiled.
Certainly made some blinding songs - Being Boiled, The Lebanon, Human, Don't You Wan't Me among my favourites. Weren't they on the bill with New Order in Barcelona? Anyone see them?

Maybe not as wierd as it seems- a mate of mine has a Human League album called Secrets and a guy called Pete Davis did some synth programming on that. I also noticed his name come up for the same thing on the credits for GR and stuff that appeared as extra tracks on the CD singles so he might have added some League-style programming to the Order's stuff as well.
