I can't get msn messenger to work

Does anyone know if it conflicts with AOL ?

Shouldn't conflict with AOL.

sometimes its just like that,just try logging in again after a few minutes,also happens to me....:)

Need better symptoms.... does it run does it just gawp when you hit login does it keep saying fook off does it just go BOOM BOOM BOOM for no adequately explained reason.

Steve I have a Hotmail address , however when i put email address and password in it returns with " Signing into messenger failed because the server is busy".

It has said this for 2 days

I chave checked port settings etc, and I am connected to the net as you can see.

I need to get on so i can play ROCKET at Checkers.

Help appreciated

I have disabled my firewall -

^ what he said. It could be a port blocking issue, however, MSN tends to need ports open at only one end, and it's a reasonably safe bet the MS authentication sever aint firewalled off.

Or if you have one of those fake windows firewalls, they are even morelikely cos they do not even operate by ports...they just say yeah or no based on what program made the request.

If it's zonealarm or black ice or one of those type things that pops up and says "would you like such and such a program to access the internet"...you've probably told it to block msn and tou should have a wee dig about inside said "firewall"(lol) and find the list of things you have denied...and remove MSN from that list.

there is one other thing it could be, but I cannot remember if you have any control over it in the windows versions. I'll have a poke.

OK....you are further up the food chain than your eail address would suggest then :D

take a look in yer system services... make sure the built-in windows messenger thing is OFF...cos it WILL flog up msnmess. And in your basic bog standard XP control panels...poke about til you find the actual windows firewall options (seperate from macafee)... you might be able to get at them through IE, but don't confuse it's silly traffic light security thing for what you are looking for.

If all else fails.... DO try GAIM, melly linked it, it will probably just work :D it connects to msn icq aol....the fuckin lot all in one package you can pretty well redesign to suit....although you will lose sme of the kore exotic (read as pretty, but dodgy) functions of the ACTUAL clients....for instance it does not support winks on msn.

OH...you are sure closing macaffee doesn't default all ports back to deny?

(tho as I said above....it is extremely unlikely a port is the problem at LOGIN)

if you're on windows like it looks like. try going up into tools/ internet options/privacy (add MSN to your sites, then while still in the privacy-advanced allow both first and third party cookies.) staying with internet options under tools pretty much go through all the settings and check that everything looks resonable. a click off/on(read fck off/on) generally re-sets what could've become unconnected. remember to hit apply and OK when you're done. Also under the ISP or whatever your secondary security system is has to be freed up to accept information. consider not disengaging the firewall that can be the beginning to the end of a tonn of cleaning up. good luck! also you've said that all was working earlier on.. why not simply system restore/last available check?

went through similar stuff when nytimes.com & some banking sites were blocking out.

yes these firewall thingys can be tricky. i have nortons, and well i suppose they all have functions where you can set the rules for a particular programm. i have also set mine to learing.

then again who am i to give technical advice. i am hardly a computer nerd. well it worked for me.
