I don't think they should have used the Trilithium Torpedo,I think they should have created a sub-space field.....well it works for everything else.Pah!

Turning an old TV show into a movie. ![]()
Here's a few examples:
Starsky and Hutch
The Brady Bunch
Fat Albert
Scooby Doo
Miami Vice (yet to be released)![]()
And I am sure there are a lot more that I didn't think of.

How about The Dukes of Hazzard? Not too good.

I know this is OT, but Steve, I am in love with your avatar.

You're not the only one. Count me in.
Another mystery in life: how the hell an actor like Hugh Grant can make loads of $$$ on crap movies.

How could you not like Dukes???? Then again, take one look at my post name and you'll guess why I love the movie so much. Car chases with old American Muscle. Great stuff.

I love the classic Dukes TV show, just not so crazy about the film. Sorry, I'm not a Jessica Simpson fan.... ![]()

There were chicks in that movie????? I only noticed the General Lee. What I wouldn't do to wax down that body.
JHC
And there's a thing.....an example of TV/movie bullshit.....EVERY time the general jumped in the original TV show.....time for a new General, in addition to turning and stopping, there is something else US muscle cars cannot do.....fall from an enourmous height and drive away from it :D
Mrs Peel....tux and me are good mates....it was ether that picture or this one.......

but the text vanished at avatar size.
Monty...re: Trilithium....nowt to do with that.....lemme ask you a question....if I blew the sun up NOW.....when would you know about it?
two things:
in rumble in the bronx with jackie chan there's a fight scene where the're in a marina doing their moves and there are mountains behind them. in the credits it says, 'thank you to the people of vancouver and the city of vancouver.' vancouver/bronx--same thing.

in breaking the waves with emily watson she's supposed to live in an eastern scottish village. we know this because it is a port for ships going out to the oil platforms in the north sea. the problem is, they're wee frees. wee frees live on the west coast, mostly in the hebrides. what's up with that?

Fuckin hell Aget...that's OLYMPIC grade pedantry there.
I like it.
Surprised no one has mentioned the old sound in space thing. I LOL'd most of the way through Alien..."in space no one can hear you scream"....so why the fuck did the nostromo just RUMBLE by.FFS.
Steve Campbell wrote: Fuckin hell Aget...that's OLYMPIC grade pedantry there.
Only things the locals...and pedants...would notice. Bit like the chase scene in Bullitt, my cousins were laughin', wonderin' how he ended up on the coast when the chase scene was clear across the other side of town. :D

Yes, but in fairness they usually come from bad Belfast actors.
Why do we talk that way on camera, that bizarre artificial inflection rising and falling without meaning....we sound like the VERY early cybermen (I mean William Hartnell early).
Something else I HATE in all TV shows....... things only ever get tried ONCE. $BAD_DUDES come up with a flawless plan, that fails because of some quirk of luck. do they set it up and start again? Do they fuck! At a very early age I learned a deep hatred for this by watching Battle Of The Planets.....every week....Zoltar would come SO close to fucking them over, they'd fluke a victory, he'd escape, and never try the same plan every again. It's tragic.
oh yeah, some quickies.... Cars do not generally explode at the drop of a hat.
Newton's laws sort of argue against someone standing up, firing a round into someone else, and while the shootist does not flinch, the shootee, flies wildly backwards through the air.
Why the FUCK would smoke from a burning spacecraft go UP? smoke rises on earth because warm air is lighter than cold, and gravity sorts them out...no gravity, and hot things expand through cold things in all directions. (note of course that fire in space is dependent on the ship's own life support)
Oh and visible lasers..WTF? and what about lasers you can SEE TRAVELLING to their target...I mean OMG....this is not discworld, when you switch your lights on in the car you do not see the beams prject outwards a wee bit at a time.
And a more widespread misconception....astronauts in zero gravity.....are in no such thing...they are perpetually falling under the effect of gravity, but falling at the same speed as their craft, they are in RELATIVE zero G....but if Gravity was switch off in the universe, they would fy off on a tangenicl course never to be seen again. If you want to know what weightlessness feels like...it's that stomach in the gob thing you get on a coaster or when your dikbrained mate takes a "yump" at 95mph in his turbocharged Nissan micra.
I'll stop for now, cos this could become a small (or not) book.
fk. keep hitting back not next onwards. delete pls.ignore.sorry edit- cold temperatures. where the characters do not see their breath. scant number of frost-on- ground scenes. cold out usually means frosty, or dewy mornings and nights. see yer breath. TV/ Movies - huge amounts of snow. their breath is still not seen, billowed hoo out.

and do things go so wrong. such drama.huge robbery, huge conflict over an outfit? oh yeah, some quickies...Cars do not generally explode at the drop of a hat.
no gravity, and hot things expand through cold things in all directions. Oh and visible lasers..atmate takes a "yump" at 95mph in his turbocharged Nissan micra..
fire also needs oxygen to burn. vaccuum- no fire.
clean windows. Westerns, dusty two-horse town Westerns. the windows are spotless.
spashy dark raining horror movies. the windows-clear and spotless.
fogged up windows that get 'swiped clear to look out of/into fogged perfectly. streakless and spotless.
the floors- at any $ level. perfect wood. streakfree . spotless. --and on -car crashes. the car explodes on contact. people bounce, get a scratch and a band-aid. cared for and visited by friends in the hospital. next day. car fixed band over the cheek. next heist.most cities people would still be waiting in line in the emergency room.
Something that I've always hated is the "15-minutes star", the actor or actress who is so "hot", "hip", and "new", that they have to appear in every single film released within a three-year period. For one thing, most of the time they're not that talented, and often more than not they really end up on a reality show two years later or a crappy sitcom about how they used to be famous, and now they're not. Sure, I get the whole "strike while the iron's hot" notion of fleeting celebrity, but if I have to see Sean William Scott on another movie poster I'm going to go apeshit. ![]()
Since the "exploding cars" was brought up, here's another thing that chaps my hide: Grenades and small missles (RPGs, AT4s, etc) that explode in a huge ball of flame.
None of these do this, except if hitting something highly flammable, like gas.
Or when people are 5 feet away from the blast, hid behind flimsy cover and escape unharmed. A regular grenade's KILLING radius is 5 meters.
JHC
Exploding cars, you say? How about the cars that sail off a cliff and exlpode before they ever hit anything? The trial lawyers must be lining up to sue that car company.
how the "hero" manages to single handed wipe out an enemy army, but never gets shot himself.
Ronald Kirsch wrote: how the "hero" manages to single handed wipe out an enemy army, but never gets shot himself.
Also how the word "hero" is used. Hell everyone is a hero, just for throwing away an aluminum can, keeping your friends from driving drunk, saying no to drugs, wiping your ass corectly. I think we have trivialized that word for others that truely deserve the title.
JHC
My gripe isn't so much about telly programmes themselves, but the timing of them. In other words: why, oh why, are the best films etc. on so late at night (especially during the week)? Don't the TV channels realise most of us have to get up for work in the morning? Why can't they put the good stuff on earlier, or at the weekend? Grrrr. ![]()
It's probably deliberate, at least for the comercial networks.
Advertising space later on will be cheaper, precisely because of the reson you mention. So if you can stick a blockbuster on, and up the audience projections, you can charge more for those slots. Put the film on early, and you gain less.
Maybe I really am just a miserable Cynic tho:)
There's been something rattling round my head to post on this thread since I got up yesterday, and it keeps eluding capture.
All the generic products. It's like your watching a bunch of kids play house without real milk cartons or frozen foods popping up in the story.
No nano personal computers pre-77ish. Did they not have an imagination to think that may come in handy in sci-fi flicks? The more futuristic, the smaller you go!
The token female in an elite fighting force in "present day" wherever who is compensating for what real women can't do due to military restraints offscreen.
Notice that all the women on Star Trek have big tits? Not really annoying but I hope it is part of the future.
