I've been back in the US for a little over a year and I need a change of scenery again. I re-started the process for my italian citizenship with passport etc.
I have to provide proof that people died 20-30 years ago. Easy enough, except I'm trying to be more stealth about this w/r/t my family. How am I supposed to ask my mom for proof that her father died without tipping her off to what I'm doing.
Also, I have to prove that my grandfather was born before my great grandfather became a US citizen. (The Italian laws you and your children were citizens unless you took a citizenship oath to another country. So, my grandfather would be a citizen, my mom, then me). You'd think this part is easy, but due to fact that they settled in a city that grew leaps and bounds with the immigrant boom of the late 19th and early 20th century, and my great grandfathers not too strong grasp of the english language, it's hard to find these records within my family and city government.
So I need the US government to actually find immigration documents for me and that's not cheap and it takes a while, and I still need to prove that people are dead. You'd think being born in 1890 was enough proof that someone was dead.
This is why I stopped this process a year ago. I know I'm elligble but it's such a PITA to prove it.
I should just take up a Marriage of Convience with someone in an EU member country and be done ;) much easier than this shit.
how do i know your family's not from Sicily? or Gotti clan related?
