Well, if that's the case it's the worst trivet ever! Unless she meant it as a coaster/place mat... I thought trivet meant/had been mistaken for trinket... Whatever it is - it's unique...

I did look the word up a few days ago. When I went to the pottery shop, the piece was advertised as a "trivet". If you want to dispute on how words are created, go read Plato's "Cratylus".
