Might as well stick it on here too!....

I never visit Digital Republic anymore cos there's nothing of any interest being said and it seems to be all about THE NEW ORDER CUP whatever the hell that is. Behind Closed Doors is marginally better when it's not being used as a substitute to MSN Messenger by about 6 individuals who I'd never even heard of up until six months ago. If you wanna chat among yourselves get a room! The rest of us aren't interested.

And what about folk that feel the need to put their tuppence worth in on every thread even when they've clearly got bollocks all to contribute?!!! There's rarely been a week I've not visited these forums since mid 2001 and I still aint reached a thousand posts. Quality, not quantity people.

I don't like to be the one to start the annual "these forums have gone to the dogs" thread but really....

but I agree with you :thumb:

My theory:

It's not the forums but the internet itself. 11 years ago, when there were few and solidly "interesting" people online who had to fight through 14.4 or less connections just to post something on a timed line - it seemed so valuable and precious and neat.

Fast forward to (generalized) everyone who can follow rudimentary instructions having a broadband line to the whole deal and every thought and opinion is aired.

Everything suddenly becomes "boring". People complain about the mailing lists, people complain about the newsgroups, people find the same faults in the forums. Eventually - you get to the point where there's next to nothing new to talk about. Then things go insane, and then something of worth happens to spark interest again.

That's what I figure BCD really is - the place to play until the main interest does something to spark up conversation again. Imagine how we'd have all acted were we in the 80s with this here technology connecting us. We'd have gone insane just as we do here. Unless the Order were doing something absolutely new every other day, we'd fall into the same thing that has bothered you.

Got any ideas on topics you'd like to discuss?

It's not a question of naming names. I'm making an observation not looking for confrontation. There's some great debates and funny as feck topics which still crop up here from time to time but the vast majority is dull and dominated by a few individuals treating it like their own private social club. I don't need to name them, it's obvious to even the most infrequent visitor who they are!

I rather thought this was an online "community". I'll admit that endless "you've got mail" threads get tedious.....but this IS meant to be a little more than a messageboard.

maybe we should chage the name of the site's album to "random unrelated folks"

Now with a bit of luck Graeme, now you'll get your own thread slagging you off, much like i did! You'll also get called all the names under the sun, have false accusations made up, and generally be vilified by a load of people you dont really like anyway!

A community is INCLUSIVE not EXCLUSIVE. Something this site has managed to avoid becoming in the five years I've been visiting is a "clique". It seems to be going a bit that way now though.

And yes I AM taking it to mean I'm one of those you have a problem with since you mention posting frequency and I've certainly come in for abuse for that before.

A reasonable point to make Glas, but be more specific as it just sounds like you are having a bad day.

Could be healthy for the board to have a discussion about this. Maybe there is too much dross? I dunno. A cracker for the lurkers anyway.

there's hardly been any Tescos threads lately and what kind of threads do you want ,Glas Vegas? New Order threads? well that's what Digital Republic and Ceremony are for ,duhh!!!

You want political threads? well they pop up on here quite often actually and last for fcuckin weeks.

oh , you don't want political threads? so what do you want exactly??

and surely the reason there isn't many new threads on Dig Rep is possibly because everyone knows everything about New Order and has nothing left to ask? Everything ahs been discussed a thousand times. What do you want ? another question about what 1963 is about??

It's the thaw from winter, slows down the mental processes. Thus the "what I'm eating right now" threads and "Top Five Top Five Threads" because intellectually speaking, that's all we frequent and annoyingly opinionated visitors can manage right now.

Just you wait til summer, this place will be exciting and fun again. By the way, I had a delicious ham sandwich... :p

all in - everybody in. differnt time zones. different opinions. hopefully with a crazy borderline obsession and devotion to Joy division then New Order then.. March-minus six = September when anybody not lucky enough to be born in the UK got word that New Order hadn't weLL. stopped. finished for good. gone. trying to get any decent sport news is another issue. Factory music and totally biased sport news is an alchemy that isn't matched anywhere. and can be found here. if people want to talk about trainers . so. this site is 24 hr escape.

Aren't you being exclusive to people who "you never heard of 6 months ago"?

The people complaining the loudest also seem to be part of a clique that is excluding those (god forbid) new people who seem to be as non hardcore as the rest of the people here. They are starting their own little conversations on BCD because for the most part they are excluded from other areas of the board.

Dunno.. I'm a silent hardcore who'd rather have more fun in the off topic forums than wank about new order on digital republic.

Fact of the matter is, this particular forum, is a place where fans of NO can talk whatever bollox they like.

Yes I find 100,000 tesco threads a tad irksome sometimes, and I could do without the you've got mail brigade (once in a while is OK, just not on alternate posts...and I say that in the full knowledge that the worst offender's someone I happily call my friend, and for whom I have a lot of time.....come to think of it, likewise DigiMike, a top bloke, just tesco obsessed).

And although I've had the odd rant about such things in the past, they're usually in response to some suggestion of some other class of posting being somehow "wrong". I've curtailed my activities here somewhat in recent times, partly because I seemed to be getting on many people's tits, and partly because, that mere fact takes the fun out of posting for sheer humour value as I am often minded to do. It also beats out the desire to go that extra inch or two for the folks round here.

However, the over-riding feeling, is that I'm rather saddened by the swiftness with which we jump at one another's throats round here (myself included), there seem to be those who thrive on the bad atmosphere that pervades the place during open net-combat....as BA pointed out, this thread's had more views than Jordan's tits. We're ALL (me, those I call friend, and those I call mate....there's a difference, but I call no one here an enemy) too swift to draw battle lines (truth be told, I'm one of the very worst in that respect), to make a stand on something, and worse, to see divisions where none need exist.

It's not right folks, and we all need to grow a pube or two.

And on this very thread we find just about EVERY sod who needs to get their heads round that (again, myself included)...we're all meant to be on the same team here....WTF happened to NOOLers against the world eh? ;)

And a final thought on the subject of bollox and pointless threads....people.....let it bother you, but don;t let it bother you too much as long as it's only BCD. (besides, if only sense and matters of gravity and import were hereposted.....the place would look like the signup sheet for Michael jackson's new daycare centre)

Enough is Enough

Shame on you oh primordial primate....what about Community2 :D

However...your post fundamentally boils down to.....should people post bollox in the absence of anything sensible to say/discuss/reveal

I'd say No, for DR and Ceremony, and Hell yeah, for this place.

Well said Chrissmari.

Glas, if you've got something interesting to talk about, post it. There's not many people that can be interesting all the time. If you read back amongst the shit there's plenty of 'proper' topics that people talk about.

Oh and it doesn't matter how long people have been on this site, it doesn't make them any less a fan. I've been a fan for 20 years but only a member on here for less than a year.

I think Sam, it depends what interests you, If politics and football aint your bag then yes, serious threads are few and far between, (especially with you being a Stoke fan!!??) But, I know a lot of the Noolers on here have quite intense and important jobs and look to this site for a means of escapism. I don't put myself in that category of important, but as I'm doing my finals for a law degree and have two kids, it is quite nice to indulge in some "shite" now and then.

The wrath?....As I mentioned earlier merely making observations. And I don't have "bad days", every day is a celebration in Fabulous Glasvegas, for real!

Nice to see the thread has gone the way of those I was refering to in the first place. Three or four individuals dominating.

To clarify....I'm not objecting to the threads about Tesco's, Top 5 Songs By One Armed Banjo Players or whether Weetabix tastes better with hot or cold milk (cold in summer, hot in winter by the way). Many of them are more interseting than another debate about whether Ceremony is an NO or JD song.

I'm just stating the glaringly obvious fact that a lot of what gets posted is dull but more importantly I'm also pointing out that 6 page long threds which are basically three people having a yawnsome conversation are best kept for Messenger. This is particularly annoying when they crop up in really good threads and basically lead to them being hijacked and taken in a totally different direction by the usual suspects.

And Barney Army, to refer to the people that agree as "shitstirrers" is a bit odd. If you agree your a shitstirrer?

You know what annoys me most is that you post summat quite reasonable stating how we should "all just get along" then fuck it up by having three separate snidey digs at me in your follow up posts. And i hadn't even responded by that point! You can't help yourself can you?

You know what annoys me most is that you post summat quite reasonable stating how we should "all just get along" then fuck it up by having three separate snidey digs at me in your follow up posts. And i hadn't even responded by that point! You can't help yourself can you?

Since I'm clearly one of the "usual suspects", one of those who interacts wth folks beyond the confines of the posted topic on occasion.I can hardly be accused of a pre-emptive strike now can I?

Hmmm..

I'm one of these people who has only been posting in the last six months, although I've been looking in for three years perhaps. Is that ok?.. Am I allowed?

I'm confused at the serious threads/political threads request too. Do you want more?. I've started a few political threads but don't start as many as i would, because chat forums don't tend to mix well with politics and religion. What exactly is required here???.. Its a mixed bag of messages.

AND.. If you want more interesting threads, then why not start one? Is that an unusual concept?. I think starting threads about this place being boring is pretty poor when you cant offer any 'interesting' threads.

Perhaps life just gets boring this time of the year.

At which point you can stop reading.

The rule here has always been "If you don't like the thread, don't read it." Simple, really. Instead of following that rule, however, periodically we get a load of wank from somebody who finds the threads aren't meeting their expected standard.

Simple solution: Ignore the threads you don't want to read. Start the threads you'd like to read. Ignore the hijacks,* keep posting on topic. End of worries.

* Some of the funniest threads ever have been the off-topic hijacks.

I dunno about you, but posting less than a thousand posts in five years suggests a lack of interest in anything.

Assuming you actually want an answer to that...... Speaking for me, I couldn't give a flying monkey scrote what any fucker thinks of me anywhere online...but this place is different, everyone here is a NO fan, and that's not like being a feckin stamp collector or a trainspotter, it counts for something, it's like a glowing reference in your CV...so when people here are unpleasant to me, I tend to take it RIGHT to heart, probably more so than I would from most "real" people too....hence my tendency to go buck daft much to the bemusement of others. Besides, the line between real and virtual blurs somewhat here too, there are meetups, many a phonecall, hell even a little romance from time to time. If NOOL blew up tomorrow, do I think I'd still be talking to any of these people in a year? Well I'd very much like to think the two ladies above, and indeed the object of their ire, would all still be very much in my contacts list of whatever method of communication is "cool" by then, among a few others.

And it's an experiment that can indeed be carried out on a limited scale....i'll be back at work before long, and NOOL will become a decidedly occasional thing once more, I can hear the street parties already.

Does this place get to people? Well the sort of shite going on on this thread truly gets me down, and it's only cos I care, about all of us here....damnit people we're the only ones who understand the biggest most beautiful secret in all of the history of music.

Though I am new to the board I fully understand the begining post.

I find it really funny how a few individuals have taken such an offense to it(no reasons need reply). It was a simple point, and observation, yet some are taking it as a personal attack. Don't like the observation? Read another post. Agree with it? Good to go. Or I suppose we could all get a bunch of weapons and have a shoot out???

Look, MSN messenger is good for individual, personal conversations (no accusations, just a simple statement). . .use it. As for the topics, well, good ones keep posting and stay on top while bad ones disappear. Enough said.

PS Forums usually get at each other's neck this time of year anyways, people just can't wait for summer.

And if either wishes to challenge my comments feel free. Do you want the world to know what you've been up to? And why?

Ha ha ha

Like we have nothing better to do than discuss some trivial people like you.

I don't give a flying fuck about what you think mate, so why don't you stop acting a big headed c**t?

Mind you next time you post my name online I'm gonna ask moderators to delete your post.

It's up to you.

we'll stand right behind you M.

Er, isn't this the very kind of thing GlasVegas was alluding to?! Two people having a one on one chat for half a thread and then backing up a third person (Maya) in a row with someone else (BA) over something which happened offline and doesn't really need to bother 98% of people who post here?!

Play nicely!

Aint it ironic that pages 3 to 6 of this thread have turned into exactly the type of pish I was talking about in my very first post. Conversations between people that have got nothing to do with thread and which are of no interest to the rest of us. I thought it was a wind up when I read it back this morning but no, they really don’t get it!

The vast majority of the many thousands who visit this board just aint interested in your petty squabbles, laughable attempts at being “flirty” with each other or the fact that you’ve sent each other mail or have no credit in your mobile. If you can’t use Messenger for this then don’t hijack other folk’s threads. Start your own and don’t subject the rest of us to it.

Rather than taking an opinion like Glas's on board, seeing who agrees and bearing it in mind for the future, the standard reaction for this place seems to be to jump all over him and hijack his fecking thread. Nice one.

For my money, this place would be shit without a good dose of talking nonsense and thread-hijacking. But sometimes it gets too much for my taste. If it takes an hour to read through a thread you're interested in, and most of the posts are completely irrelevant, something's wrong.

Perhaps the standard rule should be to look at whether a thread is one which invites opinions on a specific subject. If yes, try to stick to the subject. If no, get on with posting bollocks all over it.

I know I am as guilty as anyone else of breaking that rule, but once a thread's fallen to rat-shit, what's the point in trying to rescue it?

That's a good point. But often you DO fancy the thread, then open it and have to walk through pages of horse shit about Tesco and Engie fcuking Benjy.

Missy Jem's injury thread is a good example of this.

For your information Nick, I wasn't picking on one person in particular. I was commenting about the state of BCD in general. I can't speak for other peoples comments though. So whoever you got your 'behind the scenes' information from, got their wires well and truly crossed.

But why am I explaining myself? You won't read it anyway.

You don't like a thread don't read it... That's what I do...

Sometimes a thread looks interesting and gets hijacked or is too waffley... again I don't bother with those sorts of threads... unless it's something I really want to comment on.

If people don't like the forums full stop... well the internet is a big place... find somewhere else to play!

Think most of us have been guilty of thread hijacking at some stage and it can get frustrating. Problem is, some of the interjections are quite amusing. But one man's Ricky Gervais is another's Rob Schneider.

One thing that grates me is that occasionally some genuinely interesting threads emerge on BCD, but they're soon drowned in the sea of brainless threads. They disappear down the pecking order into oblivion. Freedom of speech maybe, but the forum agenda often ends up being set by the outspoken few. It's almost a reward for not exercising discretion.

If anyone on here had any proper friends, they could put them on an email distribution list and shoot the shit all day, speaking whatever bollocks they want to. That way they would know that everyone who reads it will, for the most part, appreciate it.

But when everyone you know deletes your emails without even reading them, what can you do but post on here?

Heh! Hardly the king, but I'll admit to priors of collusion. The king is dead and the kingdom is far worse for it, think you'll agree.

What I'm referring to now is the mass creation of meaningless threads dominating proceedings here at the expense of all else. Don't think I can be accused of that. Sure you don't have to read them but the sheer bulk of them often ends up wiping out the cool stuff.

Well put, DC. The highwaymen of old hijacked a few threads and got slated for it, mostly by people who don't come here any more anyway. As gentlemen, we pretty much stopped it, out of respect for others. And I miss the King too, although occasionally recreate those fine days by the medium of email. Lets face it, our highwaymanship was a small part of the posting we did back then. There was loads of interesting, band related stuff too. Like P's brilliant work on Homer.

These new 'uns don't seem to give a fuck what anyone thinks. no respect at all. Still, at least it's mutual.

Did you get yerself sorted with 12x12, by the way? The covers are like paper, so will definatley get knackered in the mail if posted individually. Mine even got a bit creased in the bag on the way home. This was a shame, especially as I was so careful to choose the best ones in the shop. I'm pretty sure it's a Saville-Free cover job. That mark of quality is missing.

My offer stands if you want me to get some from the shops and post them over?

It would be harsh of me to say I don't give a damn about said project but I'll admit it's not really my bag when all is said and done.

The only contributions I'm remotely interested in hearing are of those of people I genuinely know, as people. Which, in Community, appears to be a very small percentage as things go. It's not even as if the majority of the contributions are even from people who appear to post here.

Although I'll continue to vote and take an interest in proceedings, this is the bit that concerns me too. I don't recognise many of the entrants at all from these forums. So if the intention is to pump out a CD of semi-professional covers from around the world, then so be it. I think you'll find that the talents of the vast majority of C2 contestants are neither an aspiration NOR a delusion, most of them are far better than NO from an objective musicological point of view.

From 'an objective musicological point of view' that's just bollocks.

New Order wrote these songs, which immediately gives them the Heads Up over anyone who's just covering them.

don't mean that....lots of these people can actually play and sing.....which is more than for instance ...barney can manage with any degree of regularity...FFS he can't even read his own words off a machine designed for politicians and tv presenters.

I take your point regarding the songwriting of course, no fucker else wrote those wonderful tunes. And before anyone says anything about "if you don't like NO...." The fact is, I like em just the way they are.....and in a lot of ways, it's the fact that they are clearly not trained musicians, that renders them such an inspiration to the rest of us.

As Hooky said of the Pistols, so everyone from a nobody like me, to the Cheimical Bros or Orbital, may well have said of New Order...."they can do it, we can fookin well do it too".

And truly there are some arrangements that I've heard on the podcasts, that are quite superb, which while they retain the original song, have taken it to places that the array of sad mainstream producers NO keep getting saddled with couldn't even see with a telescope.

Steve Campbell wrote: most of them are far better than NO from an objective musicological point of view.

In which case they should be putting all that creative skill into um.....creating! Like, you know, something that's their's. It's a crying shame that these people (more musically capable than NO mind) have been overlooked by the general public for so long.....

Fair play and good luck to all contributors but to come away with satements like the above is just nonsense.

Nobody's slagging off the contributors. I believe I wished them all good luck. I was merely slagging another of your dumb ass comments. Now away and have a wee lie down. You'll kill yorself with all that stress.

fuck off.

No-one's slagging anyone off. I just said I don't have any particular interest in the project.

Just like the vast MAJORITY of people who are covering New Order on Community appear to have no particular interest in coming on here and talking about New Order, in general. I made the point that I haven't got a clue who most of these people are.

i've sang along to 'fade into you' numerous times and i still haven't turned into hope sandoval, goddamn it; ditto with 'heal it up' and johnette napolitano. so instead i enjoy the musical talents of others which, i believe, are quite apparent on the community project.

i many not have heard of most of the people whose songs appear on the album, but that's quite all right with me. many are lurkers and a few might join just to get their song on the CD. i really don't care, as long as it's a decent (and preferably unique) rendering of a NO song. i enjoyed most of the songs on the first community project and i'm looking forward to see what people come up with this time around.

You may not be alagging anyone off, and you may have made your point well, ( i mean I've had a few words about rent-a-logins entering) the same cannot be said of everyone.

To imply that the entrants are ALL, unworthy of being signed (because yes as we all know record company A+R men are the epitome of good taste and judgement, and if factory hadn't been there NO would have done well on PWL), or that covering a song is not an act of musical creation, is moronic to say the very least.

To suggest that it is an impoosibilty that any of the 100+entrants is a better player or singer than the members of NO, is to imply that New Order are respected virtuoso players on their chosen instrument, needles to say, they are not....they do what they do and they do it well, but could hooky take a gig as a free jazz bassist? Could Barney play classical guitar pieces? could they fuck!

And this isnt even about SNSS, we ARE just twats, in the same mode as NO, we can't hold a gig together, and we generally don't care as long as fun is had on both sides of the stage....but there are people entering this competition who ARE properly talented and who do not deserve to be brushed off as "deluded" or "wannabes" or as some sort of cast off from the amazingly tasteful music industry. (while we're here...NEWSFLASH...not everyone who makes music WANTS to get fucked over and get paid a penny a tune).

I apologize for losing my temper above, but a couple of fokls are doing that "having not heard any of this stuff, I can say it's all bollox" thing and it's actually making me truly, properly raging.

And I'm sorry to hear Dr F thinks he has no talent....it strikes me that a man who lectures in college should have some talent for education, I pity his students if he's really as talentless as stated.

Steve, I make it a rule of thumb to keep my ego as small as possible. I consider modesty to be a virtue, I'm afraid. I said I have no delusions of being talented; I wasn't implying that anyone else was "delusional" or "talentless".

Paranoid? Persecution complex? NOOL's the place for you!!

Think the other point of difference being that much of the 'tangental extrapolation' of the day was limited to a few threads, often our own. A small price to pay for the funniest commentary this site has seen from one regular. But of course that's just my humble opinion.

In deference to the sentiments of this thread, I'll email you re the 12x12"s. ;)

Right.....

Liam, I've met Mr Owens and he's an extremely pleasant chap. So were you oddly enough....the difference is, he comes accross that way online, I cannot recall a single post of his in which he pre-empively attacked anyone, nor responded to an attack with downright nastiness, as you are often prone to do. (and yes, I'm fully aware I can be a right nasty prick too)

Dr Fradley, the implication was there, but even if it weren't, and it were merely a persecution complex, for the record, it's one transferred to a third party, because I hold no illusions of being able to sing or play...my ego lies in my abilities as a techical creative, and it's a small ego because such skills tat I hae in that direction, over and above those of the average person, were half there when I was born and half created by Dr Who (no really), I would be a twat indeed to take too much credit for either. My own entry may well be pish, and you are free to call it so......but blanket statements were made sugesting that what was being offered was somehow "floor scrapings". I realise i took it a bit bad...but seriously.....we are New Order fans, we should each of us know that a record deal or a string of No1's is not the measure of worth it can appear. Oh and the thing about "no talent for teaching"...that was open ended, compliment (you must hae SOME talents) or insult (wtf are you doing teaching then?).

in general..

I have no problem in people not being interested in the project, no problem whatsoever. I do have a problem with judgements, however veiled, being made on a huge number of talented people, sound unheard.

And I would also urge anyone with a little bandwidth to grab the podcasts.....even if you seriously can't be arsed to get into the voting and all that gubbins....click a coupla links in the podcast thread to download nice mp3's...or if you have the technology, use the single link to the actual podcast feed. I'm not saying this as in "if you fuckers only listened you'd see i'm right and you're wrong", not in the slightest....i'm saying it as in "serisouly, you're missing some breathtakingly good music, and as New Order fans you really should not miss some of it" i you want to give anything the slightest go....try the current Your Silent Face Off (hehehe)....because I tell you what...i'm fucked if i know which is best, or more accurately which one isn't.

Community really is the only remotely worthy ( and I'm sure even it's greatest detractors admit that) thing going on here right now....soon no doubt NO will give us more to talk about...until then it's either community2..or just calling each other names.

I am sorry for getting all wound up again....but as I said pages back.....this is not some random URL..I credit each person here with the taste and discression appropriate to a person who gets NO. People have said things to me a billion times worse on Linux newsgroups and the worlds worst F1 forum, and I laughed it off....not so here...I cannot dismiss any single person here as a clueless idiot despite what I may say, so the opinions I hear here, sink in.

In which case they should be putting all that creative skill into um.....creating! Like, you know, something that's their's. .Fair play and good luck to all contributors .

maybe it isn't possible to simply focus on writing and producing originaL music. JD/ NO is priceless.

Community 2-is about diversity and exposure. have to listen then maybe vote to decide what you hope to see on a disc.. it is a magnet and has just attracted a-lot of attention. the New Order focus shows a certain-brilliant taste. especially if arsed enough to work out & kick out a complete cover. ![](http://<a href=)http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5103/band33gl.jpg" class="max-w-full" alt="" loading="lazy" />

Steve, you are also, basically, the man who railroaded everyone into voting for Manchester for NOOL Day.

An event which - if it goes ahead - you won't even be attending.

What's next week's big campaign gonna be?!

That's a touch unfair Al I was not the only voice for Manchester, it IS a cheaper place to do something like that, and my non attendance is not my choice. I'd have thought that were your statemnt to be 100% accurate, there was still lots of time to re-evaluate a location in absence of my svengali like influence over NOOLkind, but bloody hell man, at last count find a free venue in Manc was hard enough, never mind looking at pay-to-play-town. I know I took a coupla cracks at London, but really the above was what concerned me....that and the spiritual connection with Manchester obviously.

Besides I was only trying to say you may really be missing out on some stuff you may find you were glad to hear.....hell my own nonsense is WEEKS from being heard I think.
