a yo-yo 'expert' came to our school a few months ago and every student was given a free yo-yo after his show. i put up with dozens of yo-yoing students for weeks; confiscated several to keep my sanity.

i see it has already happened.
I remember being constantly irritated by the mass of Rubik's cubes' clicking sounds for a while back in the early 1980s.

I must be old, I dunno what half yer list is Woodsy.
you're only 3 years older than me, cambo and these things are all from the early-mid '80s. perhaps some were only big in america. jheri curl, for example. it's the chemical that created the 'curly wet hair' look that some black men and women sported in the '80s. i can't imagine there's a large black population in NI!

Ahhhh, that was the one that really stumped me....I'm thinking Daryl Hall (or is it the other one) here, sort of greasy ringlets. possibly popular among the spidey community, as shaggy perms have been a common feature on and off over the years....but I must confess I don't recall it up close and personal.
Cabbage patch kids!
(and they are back apparently)
FM synthesis
EDIT, speaking of Synths....the fucking Korg fucking bastarding M cunting fucking minge pustule 1. Any M1 owners want to admit having the "car advert generator" and argue it's validity, bring it on. EDIT EDIT: for those who are not geeks..Fm is that horrid thin early 80's synth noise that bands other than No loved, typified by the DX7. the M1 is that horrid choir noise (sometimes with jangly things mixed in) that was all over everything (particularly car adverts) from about 1989 to 1995 (a notable example would be the first enigma album), it's most unique feature was that all 128 sounds were identical in some srange inexplicable way....piano's sounded like guitars sounded like drums sounded like horns. I will STFU now.
Happy hardcore (tho it bubbles around beneath the surface in many places, it really ought to gracefully die and rot up a treat)
[magenta]cozmonite61[/magenta] wrote: Ron, it will be donated soon. Can you think of some other fads like jeans with holes?
what's the deal with jeans with holes? mine get those all by themselves.
there were happy pants. you know pants with colourful patches, flares and bellbottoms, and platform shoes. they all had a bit of a comeback in the last decade. not with me. my last pair of flares and platform shoes were in 1979.
Raccoon hats from Davy Crockett. Good thing you've mentioned the Cabbage Patch Kids, Steve. They are ugly IMHO. ![]()

i went through a serious mod phase when i lived in london in 1994-1995 and blur were shit hot. i still love mod fashion and wouldn't mind seeing another comeback a la quadrophenia. those boys in suits. yum.
Flipping the collars up on shirts...which is surprisingly making a comeback (my little brother is wearing his shirts like that now). Too eighties...![]()

and in banking / financial-type commercials.. often with a soothing weathered voice-over.. ahh.
Mod isn't so much a fad but gaining momentumn again.
Always hated those leg warmers that were prevalent in the 80's.
Also, I can't quite believe all of the girls who have tattoos on the small of their backs, right about their, errr, cracks
these days. Yes, we know you love to wear low-slung jeans, a visible tattoo back there is just a sign that's screaming "LOOK HERE!!!!!!!!"

One and the same surely?...big fat fuckin dead guy who terrorized millions. You show me a pic of them together and I'll believe they weren't the same guy :D

question how is a fad recognisable as a fad and not as something really good and here to stay.
...and comedy ties.
Four hundred quid suit and some stupid bastard puts a Bart Simpson tie on to go with it... Incredible!

Yeah, never quite understood what the fcuk those "Baby On Board" signs are supposed to signify? That the driver is fertile? That they're less likely to have their eye on the road, and instead on their screaming kid in the back seat??
:p

Sent me last couple to you again via gmail to see if that works. PS, you dunno the half of the annoyance it's caused actually, will tell you when you're older :D.
NOW the threadjacking's over.
But I'll add a fad anyway.... spidemobiles with 43bhp having exhausts fitted to make them sound like real cars.

I actually saw an older man with one on today-I was like OMG he needs help

they never looked good in the first place

I always fancied the one that said "Ex-Wife in Trunk"
Not so much a "fad", but the embrace of crappy action heros for cultural enshrinement at a time when they really don't deserve it, if ever. ![]()
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to tend to my new Chuck Norris "Is God!" website :p
jingle jangle ankle bracelets...
Don't get me wrong, some ankle bracelets are okay, just not the ones that have bells on!
space hoppers flare pants of any type and the nemisis of every kid from the seventies
KLIK KLAKS
them fuckin resin balls on 2 strings at the end of a stick, kids would furiously wave their hands up n down to get that clik clak going (the faster the better)why?ffswhy?
the only good thing going for klik klaks was that every now n then they would rebell against the kiddyklaker and both balls would miss each other midklak and wrap themselves around the kids wrist leading to a dull klak,a klump you could say, followed by a scream and a trip to casuallty.

no way....cops in england and the Us have NJO sense of humour..they'll pull you over, wreck your car then bust you for making a false report.
think I lie?
I seen a guy on telly with a violin case asked what was in it....since he was flying to chicago he said..."just a tommy gun"....and they believed him and arrested him and dumped him for dead in a foreign country....never mind that a fucking thompson sub machine gun would not FIT in a violin case!! (a viola case maybe).
Recalling the awful fashions from my adolescence, I should say that Fubu jackets (or anything FUBU for that matter) and Timberlands were a pretty bad fashion misstep. Also, low pants with boxer shorts showing. The streaked wave hairstyle which seemed so popular back in 1998. White sneakers without a smudge on them (do you not wear them outside?). And, large brand labels covering most of the surface of a shirt, jacket, or pants.

I saw someone with a fucking jheri curl. One of the temps at work (luckily not my department). Anyway, he claimed he was part spanish so it was his natural hair. Whatever, that's why he had a bottle of activator next to his computer??
YUCK

there needs to be a caveat to this:
unless worn by ricardo montalban.
boy bands grunge fashion (seriously.) cocaine chic (double seriously.) backwards clothing. no more KrisKross. blinged out teeth. it's really not attractive. lowriders, as they pretty much all look silly. crimped hair. leave it in the 80s where it belongs. for that matter, 80s fashion. it's a bad comeback. reality television shows. tamagotchis. annoying! baggy fashion that shows your boxers. no. any jeans that reveal the thong. no. the whole indie scene "irony" thing. it's boring.
payola. it's a fad that's been around since the birth of radio. it oughta just stop, now.
