Yeah that sums up the Cure. First few lps good then others are hit and miss or have only a few good tunes and some shit. Once again I defer to the live lp concept. Cure live is 100K better than studio, especially Distintegration. Get Entreat instead of Distintegration. But Three Imaginary Boys and Seventeen Seconds are essential Cure studio lp. The latter being a great chill out cd.

First- Cure had two types of music:

1. Pop singles to get their albums noticed
2. True Cure songs

I would stay away from anything post-Wish, nothing that spectacular. Have to be a hardcore fan to like those. The "Singles" album sucks, as the songs don't have their impact in the order they are in. Albums to have are:

1. Disintegration. . .this is their defining moment
2. Pornography . . .darkest album, huge impact on music
3. Head on the Door. . .Music most people associate with the Cure.
4. Faith . . .Dark, yet mellow
5. Seventeen Seconds. . .great album
6. Three Imaginary Boys . . .Only true punk album of theirs
7. Wish. . .Great mood album

Don't base your judgement off of the "Singles" album. A great album with the same singles is "Show", live album and REALLY good.

But the most beautifully crafted and poetic song ever is

If you ever gave Entreat a spin you would never listen to Distintegration again. Entreat is an lp of live Distintegration tracks from Wembley in 89. Fantastic. As a result of hearing this lp the studio lp seems lifeless and flat.

I do have Entreat, plus many of the other b-sides that are live not on Entreat, So I have the Disintegration album peiced together live. Love both of them equally.

Have you tried Modern English? Especially the album "After the Snow"? It has the hit "Melt with you" on it, but has a very similar sound as the bunnymen.
