Just wondering, cos I seem to kee hearing obviously intelligent people referring to themselves as thick when talking about their computers.....and treating me like "bicycle repair man" as a result LOL.

(please note that Bicycle repairman is a referrence to python and not some sort of suggestion that I'm pissed off with being free tech support for half of NOOL, most of my work colleagues, my mates, random fuckers on the interent and tribes up the amazon who've never seen a white (well pale blue) man before. My gift is my curse :D )

I've never found a problem on mine either........that if I couldn't fix.........well, Steve couldn't fix....pretty much the same thing!!!! Bear in mind my knowledge of the inner workings came with dos programming when I was 15 - which was a fair while ago, not that long, but a fair while........

Hey, im not good at fixing things, i make sure they dont go wrong. My dad messes up usually, but he only has restricted powers within the computer anyway

Saying that, if i was actually put in front of the thing id probably be able to have a crack at it, but couldnt even tell you where to begin from what you just said

See there's a thing...you probably don;t relate windows to old boring DOS....but all the buttons and shiney things are just the big curtain that the old guy sits behind in the wizard of Oz.....it's still DOS. I don;t call it DOS XP out of (only) bitterness and hatred....it's what it is.

Example. the folder C:\program files you think....that's not a DOS name, it's too long and has spaces...you are riht...because that is not the folder's name, it's a tag in it's header.....the folder is ACTUALLY called....

C:\progra~1

all done with smoke and mirros to throw the blame for it's ineptitude onto unsuspecting users.

Trust me...I been using the force to fic gadgets since I was extremely wee....and there are some thig in windows you just have to cope with LOL.

Like...I dare you to get it to stop making a floppy drive go "pukka pukka pukka" eerytime you do ANYTHING...without taking the drive out OR disconnecting it in the device manager.

linux on the other hand, well, anything IS fixable in it....it's just a question of whether you need to get dick deep in 15meg of C++ or not :D

Well, it makes my computer studies 'O' level look a complete load of shite then!!!!! When I get stuck (in order), kids, brother, you lot - oh, and may I add a thank you to Barney Army at this point who assisted in technical advice when I bought a laptop..........thanks to you all! Dont disappear FGS, I may be purchasing new 'hardware' any day now!:)

When something goes wrong with the computer, I consult the manual or use another computer to go to the Internet to find what I need. One time, I had a massive spyware problem and went into the Registry Editor. I know what I'm doing, so there's no way I should be stupid.
