Moussaoui Trial

Slightly concerned here, re: the evidence being given in the last few days in this trial, and the eagerness to make this guy eligible for the death penalty.

I'm not defending him at all, but he was imprisoned during 911, and surely playing tapes of the Washington plane crash voice recorder is a little over-emotive considering the guy wasn't there.

The US Government is naturally keen on retribution, but taking it out on this one guy is surely a case of 'after the horse has bolted'.

He wants to be made a martyr; Why give him the choice? Make him rot in prison is what i say.

i totally agree. i'm against the death penalty anyway, but executing moussaoui will only make him a greater man in the eyes of fundamentalists.

quite honestly life imprisonment would rob him of the one thing moussaui wants most martyrdom.

Looks like he figures he can't really lose either way: he knows he'll be a martyr if executed, and he hopes to be traded for US troops at some point for his own freedom. His arrogance at the trial today will only inflame those who would like to see him executed. My own heart says to let him rot in prison as well, and let a few prison Bubbas have their way with him.

is it a fair trial? he seems intent on destroying his defence. he seems very quite mad. i woul't be supprised if it doesn't turn into a mis trail, or at least a successful appeal.

Herman Goering should not have been sentenced to death either. Although he knew of the crimes and failed to prevent them he did not physically murder a single person himself. Just like Moussaoui.

Why should the US be afraid of making him a hero? I cannot think of anything more the US could do to piss off the Middle East except for loading B-52s with pork blood and spraying the region. Hello, they already hate the US.

Moussaoui failed to let the US know what was going to happen. He is just as guilty of murder as the pilots of the planes and Bin Laden himself.

It's a bluff. He deliberately "seeks" death penalty, knowing that it could make him a martyr and therefore nobody will dare undertake this step.

Goering was sentenced to death. He cheated in the end. But he knew of the murders of innocent people and did nothing to stop it. Just like Moussaoui knew that thousands of innocent people were going to get killed by his associates but failed to prevent this. He was part of the plan but was arreested before he could fulfill his role. He is just as guilty.

If you look at it from a Western way of thinking, Pontiac, then mebbe yes. We are all afraid of dying.

With Moussaoui, he's clearly gone mad in captivity for the last four years, and this show trial is blaming him for everything, even though he wasnt there. The trial is a joke; it seems to defy general legal precedents in trials Re;admissable evidence, and looks like heading to a conclusion that will only create more Moussaouis out there again. Just lock him up for the rest of his life, and stop going on about it, ffs.

What the prosecution is doing will fail. Playing the cockpit recordings is ridiculous. Having victims of 9/11 testify is stupid. It is all based on emotion not fact. They are making a joke of our legal system and most likely Moussaoui will appeal and be granted one. What then? Another long drawn out court case.

I wonder if the extra emotional pap at the trial is to put him in jail/execute or if it is to remind us of 9/11 and that we are at "war" against terrorism. For some insane reason whenever we are reminded of this Bush's approval rating goes up. The trial and the promotions for some lame film on flight 93 are on every tv station.
