you've been known to post some huge totals in your time as well.

It's not so black and white now is it.... I mean there are people here with many thousands of worthwhile posts, then twats like me who have 50% worthy and 50% UTTER shite (debate the figures if you feel you must ;) ), but there are also those who have n000 posts of little or no value, purely because they are chasing a post count.

I've seen a few fora with a can't post for 5 mins after posting thing...might be a plan here? tho it would doubtles depress MICK and MIKE. :D

well i have never resorted to quoting myself, or had my threads removed. i think i am fairly harmless,as most of us are. this is BCD and just about anything goes. if you don't like it, then you know what you can do, and i'm not implying anything rude here.

What about acting as everyones internet surfer? Just copying and pasting links that most people will have seen anyway. And then quoting yourself and adding your opinion!

Drop the counts, watch the wankers fuck off.

Why does anyone give a toss about the counts anyway? The more counts the more you need to get a life!! :\ohwell:

Here's what I would do. Keep the post counts for display on an individual's profile (which others could only see if the member had chosen to make their profile visible), but remove them from the public display alongside the poster's name etc.

Post counts have caused quite a few problems over the years, but now we have a few prats deliberately trying to inflate their totals by persistantly posting mindless shite (you are lucky I ain't the site owner, you'd have been binned by now), the suggestion above makes most sense. Those who are proud of their totals can either sit in a lonely place and wank over how many posts they have managed, or can just choose to make their profile available to others by selecting the relevant option. Those who don't care needn't bother.

Delete my POST, CUNT!

Get rid of the login count first. That doesn't even make sense. Mine, at last count, said 12k or something which, in 4 years, means I've logged in here 10 times a day or something. Which ain't quite true, I just work in browsers all day long and constantly switch between them which inflates my login count artificially. Technically, I'm permanently logged in at work, I don't choose to log in/out all the time.

I say lose the post counts! :thumb:

i'll moan as to why later when i have more time (and as an excuse to bump up my post count by 1 more! :evil4: )

Same here.

It's a tricky one this...

If we want NOOL to survive we need people to come visit and post on it; post count 'reward' titles motivate visitors.

I may have a warped logic here, but the way I see it, NOOL's survival helps NO's survival in some small way as well; the band know that the fans are active and passionate... and if they wanted to, they can see what we're thinking....

A lot of Kerrrrrap! gets posted- the only way to avert this is to kill, or limit access to Behind Closed Doors... but that would also damage the community...

Best thing may be for us to all ignore what we don't like...

I used to just come here to read the news; I never thought I would be approaching 2K's worth of posts, but posting on NOOL is a good bit of fun when you've nothing better to do... I just don't know how you would limit the crap-

Maybe thread creation should be moderator controlled; i.e. you can't put up a new thread until a moderator has pre-approved it; but would the moderator's be up for that kind of increase in workload?

yup, my Opera opens NOOL among others when it's run, and stays running for how ever many weeks the machine stays booted for.

No offence, but I think this is an awful idea. I certainly wouldn't post here anymore if I had to go cap in hand to someone to get what I wanted to post cleared first.

Well... we debated this over the years did we?

But Tim, to be honest.. this forum was created so all the crap can go here instead of the main forum, so that was the idea

But even the biggest crap poster then (Shug not to name him) resigned moderating this forum.

Many people used this forum as an alternative for instant messaging, as long as it's still on topic and not disruptive... I don't really mind. But it also means less people will read them. I barely read 1 of 20 threads on here.

And seriously, does the post count have really any value? I'm seriously not proud of mine and wish it would be 10 times lower than it is

Aye, no amount of wank I see posted here raises more than a momentary "FFS" and fear for the bugger responsible.Nothing other than people being personally nasty to each other and meaning it really registers on me at all. I made myself deeply unpopular here by being too gobby, so I quitened down a bit, dunno how much good it did, but I aint out to make enemies in life ;)

I find it a little hard to see how any amount of shite is bad in THIS forum, because it is the "backroom bar" if you will, Ceremony and DR should be bullshit free by and large.

Anyway I think OldMonkey's idea of removing post counts from the posts themselves would be a good idea because it would remove tem as a bragging pice but still allow secret gloating, for those who like that sort of thing.

I wouldn't like this either... just brainstorming an extreme conclusion...

I think things are fine the way they are all round- This is a cracking website and if people think a thread is rubbish; just ignore it- it's only a bit of fun!

Could we have a feature whereby you can ignore all posts by a certain user, sort of an Owens Button?

(No offence CO, just that your name had a better ring to it than Shampanyov....)
