Working Weekends

Perfectly serious topic, which is close to my heart.....

Who likes doing it? Who gets paid extra for it?

You know that type of thing.......

My weekend working more or less comes with the territory....what lies would you tell to get out of it?

Do you get overtime/time and a half.......

I am so trying to go get a serious conversation going; give me a bit of slack OK..................

I say time and a half for Saturdays; double time after midnight and triple time Sundays and Bank Holidays..........anyone want a job?

I get time and a half on sundays. Double time bank holidays. Thats about it

You're in the wrong trade.

TEN years ago was on £36K for working weekends.Hated it and the reason i got out of IT.Never again.THE MONEY doesNOT make up for it.......

If that's pretty much the rule Twatto, then no wonder I have such 'loyal' staff..............

That is not true Mick.

Should have added; you take a certain job on for certain hours yes? If you choose to do out of hours so to speak, you should at least be financially rewarded for them. I personally hate working nights and weekends, not because I don't like hard working, but I have other committments and I work hard enough during normal hours. If I have to do it, then I do, but I expect more than £5 a hour that is my pint - and if you're buying, mines Rioja. Room temp please.:p

i have spent my whole working life trying to avoid working weekends.i left my last job when they brought in Sunday working.Cunts, they really expected me to work on a sunday.Nope , not while you have your nice lie in with your sunday papers ,Mr Fat Chairman of the company.See ya! im off to find a new job.That was 2003. i've not worked a weekend since in my present job unless it's overtime, which is totally my choice of course

I worked many Saturdays in my early working life which instilled a hatred of them that ensures if a company ever tries to enforce me to do them now i just hand my notice in.as Cambo might say, "so long suckers!"

WINO-after working 24 years i KNOW what i LIKE.Weekend working is SHITE.Destroys families,social life and ones self worth in my opinion.If you LIKE it FAIR enough.But DON't say it ain't TRUE for me.Been there ..........done it.The only thing in LIFE is FREEDOM!

Maybe, but i like what i do. Plus im 16 and live at home, i dont really need the money...

I don't think I know anyone that 'likes' working weekends.......come to think of it I don't know that anyone likes 'working' at all,............but you have to don't you? There's a whole new argument.....to which the answer is actually, in this country, no you don't.........

Nights & Weekends are crap working hours. But if you go for a job that entails those hours, then you just have to do it? However, my point is that it shouldn't be classed as normal working hours. All my working life - for other people - my contract used to say 39 hours - get this - as and when required as business demands'. I must be going soft in my old age,, cos I don't do that.

I work every other weekend, have done for most of my working life (20 years), such is the nature of my work. Had to work last weekend, yes fkin Easter! I am also on a salary so no overtime! Time in lieu apparently.

i get time and a half for working overtime on saturday motnings.i don't do it often as i feel it should be double time.

the company i left when they brought in sunday working gave a pay rise to compensate for the evil deed but nowhere enough for me to think about staying.i left ,ha! ha!

If you called in sick, he'd never believe you but if you need a day off and literally say "I'm having a shag today" he'd say "Go for it"

Hurrah!!!! Some reactions.

Working weekends and nights is pretty crap. Espcially when both Parents are. It does destroy family life and I never personally gave a thought to personal life - at the time - cos I was too busy making a financial future for the family life - if that makes sense?

I'm not saying this for any reason but for truth; and maybe to put some of the younger ones on here off - 99 per cent of my friends are my age and 99 per cen t of mh friends look younger than me; and the majority of those work a normal 9-5 39 hour week................you are so right Mick, in the long run............L'Oreal doesn't think your'e worth it!

What chance do you think I've got in court?

SHeddy -i won't be in work FRIDAY -i've down down with a cold SERB!

On a personal note, working every other weekend makes the time I get to spend with my family that little bit more special. We tend to cram a whole lot more in. Don't get me wrong though, I would love to do a normal 9-5 39 hour week, but don't think I could hack the boredom of it :D

I've got two ,soon.Saturday and Sunday

Usually I work about twenty-five hours a weekend (that's seven on Friday, nine on Saturday and Sunday), because I'm at school during the week.

I'll probably work during the week again after finals and before the first summer semester starts

To be fair - to everyone - it's not the amount of time is it? it's when you get that free time; so it's not much use to me unless the kids are on holiday and you can bet on it that's when I can't the time off..........

Having said all that, you have to 'go' where the work is..

even if it takes you darn sarf..........

not yet. i don't see it happening anytime soon, although with our new labour laws..... .
