What do you guys think of the Arctic Monkeys?

Hey, long time no post for me. Been meaning to get back around here. Anyway, I just bought tickets to see the Arctic Monkeys on june 11th over here in the US and I'm really excited. I think they have some really great tunes, and I did buy them. So anyway, what do you guys think of them? Over hyped or class act? Anyone else going to see them play soon?

I really quite like them. They came out of nowhere straight to No 1 x 2. Not the finished article at all, and the album isnt that good. But early promise is good. The more and more I listen to them, I hear early Libertines.

Great gig I'm sure, but remember they are young, and have heaps of pressure on them perhaps far too quickly. I'm sure its well worth the cash though.:D

I agree, they could polish up there technique a bit. I got my ticket for only $13, and I'm gonna be front row. I'm pretty sure the place is small so its gonna rock. Although I know We Are Scientists are opening and I don't care for them much. Should still rock though.

Just got done with my KITH viewing (was only going to watch for the Daves I Know and Menstruation)

Anyway, bought the album a while back, it's *good* but not *great*. There's some great tunes, but a lot of filler. And the hype could kill them off before they get a chance to redeem themselves

Whats KITH? Sounds funny whatever it is. Anyway, AM. I never thought about the hype killing em off, but I can definitely see how it could. I admit I thought they were crap when I saw there debut was voted 5th best in nme. But eventually I bet you look good on the dance floor got me hooked. I hope the hype doesn't kill them, and I hope they don't pull a stone roses or oasis. I think one of the reasons I like them so much is the lyrics. Makes up for some of the tunes.

Kids in the Hall. Canadian sketch comedy show that's a lot more brillant than the Monkeys. :D

I think they're a bit overrated really, quirky, but in a relatively safe and non-threatening way - like, "aren't the Monkeys really whacky, but still radio-friendly, phew?"... Fair play to those who like them, but I suppose my deep suspicion of anything triumphed by NME has taken its toll... Mainstream alternative?

In a dilemma. The singles I've half heard I quite like, but people compare them to the libertines all the time and I've decided I hate the libertines ('cos doherty's such a tosser and I found the first lp very boring, and I got irritated by all the NME hype - weird how sometimes NME's pant-wetting overenthusiasm puts me off a band and sometimes it doesn't, depending on what mood I'm in when I encounter it) so if I find I like the monkeys I may be caught in an inconsistency. Plus they have a really, really stupid name. God, I hate that name.

some good songs, some bizarre titles, a shed load of hype. a certain romance is going on my monkey related compilation though

Man, do I hate the libertines, or w/e there name is. I don't really hear the similiarity, probably because I only had to listen to the libertines once to know that I hate them. Does anyone else hear the smiths in the song "from the ritz to the rubble"? I still love the song though. I just can't remember what smiths song it sounds like. I look forward to there new EP. thanks for the link old blue. I think the rogue "the" helps, I always get a bit flustered when I say who f*ck are arctic monkeys. But w/e there calling there music its better than a lot of the other new bands I've heard.

Bought the Arctic Monkeys album a month or so ago to see what all the fuss was about, and still don't know. Nothing remotely interesting, they sound like a Libertines tribute band (ooh the irony ;)), which makes them like a Clash/Jam tribute tribute. Hmmmm.

I have to admit that was pretty funny. But I still like 'em! Chun Li's spinning bird kick has secured my admiration.

Mediocre.

Saw them live. Very poor, and had an attitude which didn't really endeare them to the audience.

Album is one that you listen to three times, then forget about. Some good lyrics, but musically uninspired.

Does anyone know why this band is so hyped? They're fine but that's about it. Theres so much more going on in the world of music worth paying attention to.

It's because they used the internet to build up their fanbase.

Only partly (because Radiohead have been doing that for years, so its hardly anything new).

The main reason they are so hyped is because Alex Turner apparently writes the best lyrics of all time. And that the band are a mix of the Libertines, Stone Roses and Oasis. And thats it just four normal kids in a band. They are made out to be so special, because, well, they arent.

I think they're alright. I have the album, seen them a few times but probably wont see them again and cant see me listening to the album anytime soon.

It seems like the press were just playing a joke on us all by making something out of nothing - but I guess that happens all the time.

I agree there not super special, its nice to see so much of the other view. But I'm still hoping for a good show. I'm sure we can agree though that the other two primate bands are good, 'eh? Primal Scream & Gorillaz.:D

Downloaded a few of their gigs. Overhyped and in need of Song Titles 101. Notice that many of their titles are run on sentences? More interesting than Coldplay.

Like them, though after a lot of initial listens I don't play the album much.

Hopefully going to see them in May.

Don't see the appeal myself, although I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor has a certain charm to it.

And was 'Infected' by 'the The The' or 'The The'? Someone should have made a tribute band 'The The The' or 'the The The The'.

Don't believe the hype. See them live and you will be sold. Seen them twice so far and they are the real deal.

Love the lyrics, not as keen on the music. Think all their stuff is gonna sound a bit 'samey'
