By announcing the request to the FA, Newcastle could just be playing games, trying to put pressure on the FA, playing with the betting odds, whatever.
They could have done it in private (and may already have done).
No, it's not a done deal.
The thing is, the club haven't actually said anything officially on this at all. It all started when Newcastle Evening Chronicle broke the news last week that Roeder had the job, provided the green light was given from the Premier League over the Pro Licence situation. Freddy Shepherd keeps coming out with the same stock response that they will only make a comment when they have something official to announce. It's no secret, however, that they enquired to the PL about the appointment of Roeder on a permanent basis and now appear to have been knocked back.
The players and, again according to the local press, the majority of the Newcastle fans seem to be behind Roeder now though and I doubt this story is going to go away even in light of the above decision. It was rumoured, again in the local press, that they may get around a knock back from the Premier League by appointing Tommy Craig (who already has the pro licence) to give Roeder the time to get the qualification. Personally, I wouldn't mind if Roeder did get it, he's definitely earned a crack. Having said this, we've still got to replace Shearer for next season and i'm not sure that Roeder, as a manager, is going to be a huge draw for quality players.
Anyone's guess what'll happen next but Shepherd initially said the new manager would be announced before the last match of the season. Very much doubt this will happen now

Then hint at how much a good job Koeman could do?
I'll get ma coat

That would most likely have the reverse effect. Freddy Shepherd's hardly squeaky clean. He'd probably think Roeder was a 'man amongst men' and appoint him on the spot ![]()
I've just laid Roeder and lumped (on) Craig. Boy, this is fun.
Or stressful?!
One of the two.
Mancini seems to be benefiting. Come right in today.
Oh, and Yahoo reported earlier that PSV are making overtures towards Koeman now!
Bollocks.

So he is a kerb crawler? What was he doing in London.....awaiting an appointment for them badges he's not getting ![]()
SHEDSRUS wrote: Who the F**k is T Craig?
Roeder's right hand man. But HE has the qualification to be actually appointed manager, and then they can do their roles in reverse, sort of. Manager in name alone though.

A Celtic and Newcastle legend. Tommy was Billy McNeil's right hand man when Caesar managed us. He also took caretaker charge before Brady was given the Celtic job......or was it Macari? Dark days for us, my memory's gash.

As I said, Who the F**k is T. Craig ![]()

What would your admirers think if they saw you like this.
Just trying to be realistic. If this comes in for me, there's a free bar in Liverpool.
For everyone.
For the rest of the year.
And you're all coming to Espagne too.
Er, possibly.
has everyone else printed this off to keep as well you know, just in case?
can we have rk as the letters on the next badge if it does?
Mark McGhee's a Toon Old Boy, isn't he?
We don't want him - so they're welcome to pay up his contract...
Chris :D
All over now.
And, just as a quick edit, you can't even try to lay him now. No option to lay him on betfair whatsover. All lay columns are now blank.
Oh well, gave a few of us some hope for a few weeks anyways.

That means there's no free bar in Spain? ![]()
It was definitely fun, but expensive fun fer you lot!

Cheap bit of damage limitation?
If you've got 880 notes to spare you can now lay Koeman to win yourself a measly 2 quid. ![]()
Hurry before that 2 pounds disappears!

I've already layed more than that.
I was a bit drunk at the time.
S'pose the fact that someone's still willing to put up £2, even at them odds, shows that there is still hope?

I actually backed him also on Betfair, so I got out of trouble. I would have preffered Koeman though :(
Al Jarvis wrote: Oh, ferfcuksake.
He's the only one I actually LAID!
When did you lay him? I grabbed a few quid on him at round about the 2's. Still a bit sore though. ![]()

Laid a few hundred the second they made the announcement that he COULDN'T take the job last Thursday night. FA cnuts. He was drifting fast and got him around 2.1-2.2 and then Friday they announced they were gonna lobby the chairmen and he started to come in again!
Interesting comment from Shepherd though today. Might he have another card up his sleeve?!
"Should we wish to appoint Glenn Roeder as our next manager it is nice to know we have the support of fellow clubs, and I'd like to thank them and the Premier League for their understanding," Shepherd said.
Should?! Eh?!
peter ried said on soccer saturday that if the rules were bant,he wants his 7 grand back that it cost him to get his badge.
newcastle have drooped another bollock with this appointment as well. HOW LONG DO YOU THINK HE'LL LAST ? ![]()

Nah, he's got nothing else up his sleeve. He's just being a div. Roeder has def got it. Press conference on Monday with Roeder, Craig and Shearer all being given titles in the new structure, apparently (probably an ambassador role for Shearer. Announcement about his role at the testimonial tomorrow). Lee Clark will take over the reserves.
I'm not sure why Shepherd's still being so 'cloak and daggers' about it all though.
What about John Bond he did a fine job with the dingles at burnley in the 80s. Is he still with us?![]()
