Nowt new. The Wedding Present were selling soundboard recordings of their gigs 20 years ago.

I think it'd be a great idea for NO to do something like this. It'd be especially good for those of us who can't get to any of the gigs.

Indeed. I think Bauhaus has some limited edition CD's of shows from their tour available as well.

Downloading notwithstanding, the live DM recordings will be professionally mixed from multi's, mastered and packaged. No sound quality issues.

I would like the option to purchase exactly for these reasons. It's a paradox when you have a poor-quality recording of a great show and/or repertoire.

To be honest I'd rather listen to a bootleg from 20 years ago than a pristine recording from the last show. Some releases of soundboard recordings from way back when would be nice though.

The Who released a load of concert cds from their 2002 concert tour of america. These were a well received series, recorded live from the mixing desk with a minimum of overdubs. NO should do the same for their live events.

I would prefer to have older gigs. Plus i love bootlegs for banter which id always edited out or bleeped on official releases. Perfection is boring

I'd rather have a bootleg from the mid eighties than 2006 full stop, whatever the quality. By comparison I think the latest gigs are incredibly dull what with predictable set lists, worse mixes of individual songs, songs that don't change from gig to gig as they once did, fewer cock-ups and the banter is not what it once was.

Unfortunately not many gigs from that time were multitrack recorded and so the option to release one is not there and, as Mil points out when gigs are recorded in this manner (e.g. GMex 1987, Brixton 1987, Finsbury 200?) bits are edited out remove obscenities and to make the performance sound as polished as possible - it spoils the overall appeal.

And then yuo've got the cost. I can't see Norder having the mass appeal to create enough demand for such discs meaning going to the effort would not be econically viable.

Given the option of a bootleg or a mixed down version of a gig from that period I'm greedy, I'd like both. :)
