my vote goes to silent hill. the plot was non-sensical and i felt as though half the plot was left on the cutting room floor; not to mention it wasn't the least bit frightening. a big thumbs down.
the worst film you've seen lately

haven't been to a cinema in awhile.....I sat back a couple of weeks ago when IFC was showing the Sgt. Pepper's movie (with Frampton and the Bee Gees) OMG!!!!!! What a fckuin' insult!!! It was so badly acted, even for a movie without dialog, looks like they spent most of the budget on the cocaine for everybody. A true train-wreck on the screen, and the mass chorale of the Hollywood b-listers at the end was another insult. Still can't believe that Frampton kicked Steven Tyler's ass, and I bet Steve Martin isn't too proud of his work in this one. ![]()
I've seen some: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie The Guyver Time Runner Assasination Tango
I'm glad I didn't see Gigli though. Can't stand Bennifer :barf:
"Shopgirl" was okay overall, but the whole movie felt a bit weird. I read somewhere that Steve Martin wrote his part for Tom Hanks, and I could see it working better if that had been the case. But I would recommend it as a guilt-free way to kill 106 minutes, at least ![]()
Seen plenty of awful movies, but the two from recent years are.... the Time Machine and The War of the Worlds.
Both of which are abject shite, full of the most obvious sentimental balls, and so utterly unrelated to the stories who's titles they stole, that I sincerely doubt I could make the connection without being told the titles. I dunno, it's like going to see saving private ryan, and finding out that WWII was actually about the germans wanting everyone to wear pink. Or going to see "Jaws" to find out it's a love story about 2 poodle owners.
I know hollywood is compelled to make dumb movies, they are more dumb people than smart people, making smart movies if not smart ecconomics....but this rape of English national treasures is disgusting and were I prime minister I would exterminate LA with nukes as a punishment and preventative.

Silent hill would be the worst movie i have ever seen if it werent for pootie tang, the absolut worst film ever.
i saw "Goal: the dream begins" it was kind of corny but much better than Silent hill

I always find the 'hilarious' comedies shite as well. American Pie, Meet the Fockers, Something about Mary, etc. OK there's a couple of lines here and there but they never live up to my expectations.

Are you talking about Eraserhead or The Wicker Man? The Wicker Man is bad but Eraserhead defies belief.
And I agree American Pie is crap but Meet The Fockers and Something About Mary??!! Two of my all time favourites. After Dumb and Dumber which still cracks me up when I watch it.
I meant the Wicker Man, i've never seen Eraserhead (thankfully)!
As for the comedies, i think if they didn't hype them so much and show most of the funny bits in the trailers i'd enjoy them much more.

Actually i really liked Dumb and Dumber.
My friend has just reminded me about a couple of scenes from Mary that i p*ssed myself at, so i'll back down on that one.
American Pie and that one about the Mining strippers, i'm still not impressed.
I think the deal with those comedies is that the few blindingly funny gags are lost in a sea of cheap carry-on style humour.
I am REALLY trying to think of bad movies, but I keep running up against a huge wall with those two I mentioned before on it, although I should have mentioned that THREE unbelievably shite versions of WOTW came out simultaneously, and if you thought Tom Cruise's was bad, you need to see the other two. (if you thought TC's was good, you and me, outside fuckin NOW!)

You don't need courage. Just a desire to be bored sensless for an hour by a dull black & white exercise in self indulgence. I challenge anybody to say they enjoy or "get" that movie.
On the topic of comedies, another one of my all time favourites....
KINGPIN!!!

My wife has the incredible knack to pick the worst movies, even when there are some obvious killers on the shelf. last bad pick -
The Family Stone
Wow, what a waste of time. terrible love story, set in the backdrop of a strange family, poor story line, and the end was soooo cheesy and unbelievable. Only one shocking part, was when Diane Keaton (the dying mother) pulls open her shirt in a romatic scene with her husband and a scar is where her breast should be. . .will have to say that was shocking, but also touching, but other than that, terrible movie.
JHC
my mom wanted me to watch Nanny McPhee with her last night, so i did. it was AWFUL. i know it's a kids' movie, but it's possible to make kids' movies that adults can enjoy too if forced to watch them. ![]()
I would have to say "Stealth" is the worst movie I have seen lately. Saw it over the weekend and wish I could get that time back.
Psy
I was looking forward to Napolean Dynamite, but thought it was bloody awful. There was only one funny scene, and it seemed that the reason this movie was supposed to be funny was because Napolean and his buddies all looked like total dorks, but thought they were cool. It was like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch dragged on for an hour and a half. In fairness, the volume where I was watching it was way too low and that did detract from my ability to enjoy it.
It was Still better than Ace Ventura 2 though!!
![]()
Whoops, I forgot to mention that I tried to watch Barbershop on DVD just this past weekend and only made it through half an hour!
Psylocke Smythe wrote: I would have to say "Stealth" is the worst movie I have seen lately. Saw it over the weekend and wish I could get that time back.

Just been watching it,effects are good but the dialogue is dire. And definite rip-off of 2001,the bit where HAL can lip read. Jessica Biel's nice in it.
I cannot be bothered to finish The Squid and the Whale, I've had it for almost a week and made it through about an hour before putting it up. The guy who directed it co-wrote The Life Aquatic, so I was thinking it would be right up my alley.
There's just nothing about it so far that causes me to want to finish it ![]()
I really liked nanny mcphee actually
worst movies though - there's only been a few movies that I could turn off in the middle and not care about seeing the ending, which is very rare..even if the movie is awful I still need that ending to close it off. The Cat in the Hat was one of them...and I also REALLY (and there's probably going to be a bunch of guys all upset when I say this) hated both the Matrix movies and Fight Club. And yes, I know about all the fancy-shmancy so-called deeper meaning shit and how they end. but I really think it's just a bunch of fancy action scenes dressed up to appear as some kind of intellectual philosohy so that the macho boys can feel special or some similar bullshit. ![]()
but that's just me. I'm sure there's another movie that I stopped in the middle of and walked away from, but I just can't remember right now.
~Victoria
Oddly, I only liked the first Matrix film, I didn't think I would but was dragged along and in the end enjoyed it...2nd was a weak echo, nothing more, 3rd one was incoprehensible. quite enjoyed fight club as well, purely because I expected it to be one sort of thing (thought we were in for a boring van-damme-esque sweaty knuckles movie) and it was something entirely different.
Now as for Monty( was it?) who defended TC....I don't give a fuck that he believes all human evil is caused by the insane souls of ancient alien prisoners...I care that he he took my favourite book, a jewel of our language that says SO much, about so many things....the purest science fiction novel ever written......and turned it into crying children and the fucking US marines shooting martians (I have no doubt the marines would face the martians well, but in Wells' view, they'd get toasted). Anyone who doesn;t hate Tom Cruise, and has time to read a short novel ( a mere 150 pages)...please read WOTW, then watch his abuse of it, you'll hate him too.
One other film I seen reasonably recently was thunderbirds. Now laugh if you will at the sight of yours truly, looking every bit the timelord (ie, strange and alien), sitting in a cinema alone ( yeah cos all my mates were in a real hurry to go with me) surrounded by kids...LOL I'm surprised they didn't station security around me :D Anyway, The film bugged me. The effects were a joke compared to the original from 40 years ago, and it made me genuinely loathe the Tracey family. In it's redemption...Lady Penelope was far more the Lady-P of book and comic, than the barbie on strings she was in the TV show....it was nice to see her played according to her character....ie the original Lara Croft. Thing is, the TV show is a kid's show that treats kids like grown ups, which is probably why so many grownups have a softspot for it, the film was just a kids film, the only "adult" content are risque gags about penny's tits.
Star wars Ep 3 was much better than I expected. I lost the will to live somewhere half way through ep2....when it turned into dynasty for an hour. But Ep3 actually covered some plot and story in between 15 min shots of that Himbo Skywalker pouting at that vile Padme woman (I don't think i was even invited to the meeting where natalie portman was voted as good looking...I would even have voted against her coming off the national bog-troll register).
Somebody slagged "The Core" off above....I think you missed the point of that film...it was a tongue in cheek, comic book thing ( I bloody hope it was anyway)....I loved it and laughed my balls off at it. At times it was as if it had been written by a mel brookes who had learned the arts of subtlety and restraint.
One final thing ( look it's fuck-off AM and I just got up so I am gonna talk bollox ok). I was laughin at the pink panzer trying to figure out where it had come from....I read the letters RWT about 100 times before it clicked...oh the shame :(
I have yet to see Episode 3 of Star Wars, though I have seen the rest. The prequels are not that bad, but they bite compared to the original trilogy.
The first Matrix movie was a classic. The second was a ripoff, but had enough visually cool things to keep me interested. The third was shite, pure and simple, without even the satisfaction of a definitive ending. I liked Fight Club, thought it was original in a way, though I didn't like it as much as my mate who I saw it with. Star Wars ep3 was very good. Almost on par with the original trilogy. I'd maybe put it ahead of Return of the Jedi but definitley behind Star Wars and The EMpire Strikes Back. However, episodes 1 and 2 practically ruined the whole thing for me, they were so bad. Episode 1 was like watching CSPAN or something. Episode 2 was OK but I actually got tired of watching Jedis deflect laser blasts with their light sabers after a while.
I saw Phantasm II recently as a midnight movie played at a local theater. It's not so bad as long as you hope the filmaker wasn't taking it seriously.

The Arnie classic "Commando" has been on SpikeTV a lot this past weekend. Something about one guy decimating an entire army and not getting so much as a flesh wound just smacks of implausibility, I have to say. Sorry to shatter the illusion for anyone ![]()

Loved how the porsche that was damaged on one side, was flipped over and driven away. On the scene that it was flipped, it shows the damage to the side of the car. On another scene a few seconds later, the car is no longer damaged. It has to be Arnie's magic touch :D

I forgot about the star wars movies!
I was INCREDIBLY disappointed with the first star wars movie...even the second one too. probably because I literally grew up on ep4-6..my brother had just about ALL the toys (including the ewok tree village!! and the monster/creature from return of the jedi), the bedspread, wall paper, and sleeping bag..I was so jealous :(
I just found the special effects ruined it..it felt SO fake watching those movies after seeing the forests, deserts, and snow storms..I mean, obviously the outer space thing is fake in any of the movies, but everything on land just took so much away...I also really didn't like how jar-jar and many creatures looked so unreal. I know it takes a lot of time to use digital images, but it's just not the same as the personal touch, effort, and detail of the real costumes and actors.
The third one was pretty good - probably because the plot develops so much. it's hard to remember..I've been meaning to buy a nice collectors set of all 6 movies (I don't even know if they have that out yet..? probably, i just haven't bothered looking, not that I actually have the money to get them..)
~Victoria
Good to know you grew up on the classics, Scattermcbrain.

It seems like they put so much effort into the special effects on episodes 1 & 2 that they forgot to add good characters and interesting stories.

Kinda like the way I thought True Lies was OK because I looked at it as a spoof of a spy movie.
I liked independence day when I first seen it cos I was off my fucking face and it was a HUGE cinema. However, when I rewatched it I got as far as like the 2nd shot.....where the moon vibrates with the sound of the passing mothership (yeah cos sound happens in space LOL) before realising it was tardfodder. The Interpreter. Plot holes, uninteresting, Nicole Kidman can somehow over a plot to assassinate someone in a language only she and a handful of others can understand, most of the politicians of said African country all appear to be in NY. Was dull. And I'm not too keen on the whole African politics propaganda as well.

I thought it was OK because I didn't take it seriously at all. I looked at it as a spoof of a science fiction movie, and in that way it's watchable.
Kinda like the way I thought True Lies was OK because I looked at it as a spoof of a spy movie.Roland Emmerich doesn't do spoofs...
He does now.
Did I miss something?
I mean that the movie is so bad that it's an unintentional spoof.
Isn't this how Attack of the Killer Tomatoes got started?
I don't think the Killer Tomatoes were unintentional spoofy...

i've never laughed so hard while watching a film as i did during attack of the killer tomatoes.
When a film is so bad that you start MST3K-ing it, a rotten movie can suddenly become enjoyable. ![]()
My buddies and I rented Random Hearts (I think that's the title) because one of them was a big Harrison Ford fan. It's basically he and Kristen Scott Thomas find out their significant others were having an affair together, and they proceed to get it on. One thing that we picked up on very quickly: the characters all seemed to address each other by their full names. That, and it looked like Harry and Kristen phoned in their performances. We started just riffing on the thing and, while I doubt we were on the same level as Mike and the 'bots, it kept us from feeling like we'd wasted an evening. ![]()

Probably just a bad joke on my part.
Humor doesn't always translate that well either, especially not electronically.
I was at the gym and caught the first half of First Knight, with the sound off. At first, I thought it was a cheap, poorly made TV series. Then I saw Richard Gere walk on screen, and it dawned on me. Granted, I couldn't hear it, but it looked bloody awful. Too bad Sean Connery had to be associated with this pile of crap.
I "love" those Hollywood-medieval-movies where everything is cleaned up properly and the armors look pretty shiny and fumigated...
The only american who got the medieval time right is Terry Gilliam, in my opinion. Muddy and dirty... That's how it was... :)

True. I like Excalibur (OK, it was directed by an Englishman) but you could get blinded by Lancelot's armor on a sunny day. I thought the 2004 King Arthur was a pretty good, unromantic version of the tale, though not really set in medieval times.

Can't wait for the sequel
my friend got dragged to the sequel when it was showing at the discount theater here, he highly reccomended it ![]()

Things I learned from The Omega Code movies (possible spoilers):
Peace in the Middle East is the work of Satan.
World peace in general threatens national sovereignty, and is the product of Satan.
Somehow it is possible to make a sequel to a movie that ends with the apocalypse/rapture. Starring the same main character.
If the world was divided up into 10 zones that each had equal votes in determining policies, for some reason only a world chancellor would have any power whatsoever.
When Satan threatens to take over the world, it will be the USA that stands alone in trying to thwart him.
If you're educated in Italy, you turn British sometime around your 21st birthday.
Africans are the first to go.
Talking to a woman twice in 20 years, for about 5 minutes each time, can ensure lasting love and concern.
Calling yourself the new Julius Caesar, and killing everyone that gets in your way, draws no bad publicity to you whatsoever.
Killing thousands of people with magical lighning bolts doesn't get on TV. Natural disasters do.
Americans with British accents can head the EU.
Screw impeachments, the FBI can arrest the President. For things he might have done decades before.
The Bible, if put in 3D, gives you power to dominate the world, because it can allow you to predict events AFTER they happen.
Ancient Hebrew translates into characters like "..." and contractions.
Scare tactic movies that have no mention of Jesus, and little mention of God, are the best way to sell your case for Christianity.
seen the Lawnmower Man years ago and seen last week it being repeated on telly.

Not that bad in my opinion. On of the first "cyberspace"-movies I've ever seen in a movie theatre. I hadn't seen that kind of computeranimation before... (You can't compare it to today's movies, sure - but I've always seen it as a kind of milestone...)

As far as #3 in a series, though, it can't be as bad as Godfather 3!!
