I asked this on the Memorable Moments in 24 HPP thread, but the question was not answered. Did the deleted scene where the Mondays butchered BM in the garage suggest that the Happy Mondays got its name from the song itself and turned it to an opposite meaning?

I remember Black Grape getting their name cos Ryder said Kermit was black and that he (Ryder) liked grapes.
Upon hearing this I had a mate say he was absolutely disgusted and didn't think that should be allowed.
At the time I thought, eh?!
Couple of weeks later discovered he genuinely thought the band were actually called Black Rape!

That depends whether is is the Band (a single entity) or the members of that band ('Happy Mondays' being a collective term for the individuals in that band) that is being referred to.
It is fair to assume that the members of the band (rather than the band itself) decided on the name.
I therefore rule in Al's favour on this occasion, although I will be very dissapointed if someone doesn't base a challenge on the relavence of the word 'the' (or lack of, in this instance).
