Just been talking to my mate, a Dr of aerodynamics, who does freelance work for aircraft designers and F1 teams....

On subject of those little flags......

@ 30mph they consume 1 litre per flag per 30 miles

at 60mph 2.5 L at 80 4L

so engerland flag=less beer money.

what size flag is that? i got a small socceroos one for the car a couple of weeks ago. don't ask, it came free with a sunday paper. i haven't flown it yet. i may if we actually make it to the next round or beat brazil in 30 hours time.

I assume he is reffering to the standard 6inch chav badge model, I would also assume his consumption figures are based on a 1.4 corsa with neon tubes underneath, a hole in the exhaust and a rear wing ( on an FWD car....there is no limit to human fuckwittery)

fair point, but close the windows, empty the boot, clean the bodywork, pump up the tyres and at high speed you save the petrol for a flag.

Only 'Engerland' flags on a car down my street are flown by a chick who has a season ticket at Man City.

I went to this pub in Blaenau the other week. If you bring two England flags snapped off peoples cars, they give you a free pint of whatever you want.

Not too shocking. Wind resistance is a drag (pun intended). I know that if you're going in excess of 50 mph, you're better off using the car's AC rather than opening the windows, because the drag caused by the open windows is so large. Anything that causes wind resistance will increase exponentially with speed.

Perhaps if you poke a bunch of holes in yer flag, you can be patriotic while remaining fiscally responsible. Nah? Just trying to help.

It might be easier to have the flags inside the car.

I watched England's first game ,against Paraguay, at home.The lad across the street form me has England flags on his car.But he spent the duration of the game outside,washing his car .He didn't even have a radio on, listening to it

I heard that on the radio a while back - some Professor at Manchester University with too much time on his hands had done the maths.

This was allegedly the reason why most delivery companies have outlawed their drivers from putting flags on their vans. Purely a money saving measure and nothing at all to do with them being miserable bastards.

I don't have them on my car (despite fierce opposition from my children!) but I'm all for national pride so it seems a bit draconian. Another couple of weeks and they'll all be safely packed away again.

Is that true? Washing your car makes it more aerodynamic? What about if you wax it? It feels smoother, does it work better through the air.

I've wondered this for ages and never thought to ask anyone.

One poor disabled man has been dragged out of his car and beaten up here in Aberdeen. The car had an England flag on it and he was wearing an England T-Shirt.

This is the sort of thing stopped happening years ago in more civilised parts of the world. All it is is low-level, mindless racism.
