Think about cricketers polishing one side of the ball near their groin to get swerve.

Still, nice to see that the Jocks - as ever - always treat footy as a laugh, aren't naughty like the English barbarians, everything in good humour, good ol' loveable Tartan Army etc etc etc.

Not like they'd ever punch anyone to the ground while telling them "football's like a religion up here", is it???

Jock Jihad, anyone?

Kids & the disabled eh? Mel Gibson would be proud.

On a lighter note heard on the radio that the monkeys at Knowsley Safari Park have a right stash of Engerland flags

Shocking stuff, obviously.

But let's employ a bit of common sense here, if I wandered around with a Scotland shirt down here or had Scotland flags plastered all over my car/house then sooner or later I would get grief or one of my windows smashed. Even if the World Cup was on or not, even if we qualified or not

It's just the way things go and I bet similar incidents have happened to Scottish/Irish folk down here as well as this one oop north. Obviously whoever does that type of thing to any nationality out of sheer nastiness is a c*nt and needs dealing with by the law.

I've wondered this for ages and never thought to ask anyone.

One poor disabled man has been dragged out of his car and beaten up here in Aberdeen. The car had an England flag on it and he was wearing an England T-Shirt.

This is the sort of thing stopped happening years ago in more civilised parts of the world. All it is is low-level, mindless racism.

Scotland for the Scottish "blondie". Comin' up here, stealin' our oil.......

Agree 100%, but, I may be wrong but English kids tend not to get brought up on a rivalry with other Brit/Irish nations. Same cant be said so much the other way round.

I saw a 10yr old NI kid on telly yesterday who said he didnt want England to win coz the Emglish would keep banging on about like they 'do' with '66. Now who was really talkling there? And Shug makes a good case for my argument

I'm not as fussed about the England footy team as most, but knowing how pissed off the people who hate us are if we win makes it a lot more fun

Are you sure? I think that’s bollocks. The English, as a rule, do not have anti-Scottish feelings at all.

I would fancy my chances wearing a Scottish shirt in any English City more than the other way around.

Sadly, the reason for these attacks is the inability of some people to tell the difference between banter and reality. Intelligent people I know might joke about throwing stones at people in England shirts or pulling off people's flags. Hating the English is a national obsession up here. But when there’s the possibility that it will be taken too far, it takes on a more serious aspect.

It's similar to England in the 70s/80s when it was common and socially acceptable to pick on and abuse Indian, Pakistani and black people. People cringe at it now, but the accepted name for the corner shop was ‘the Paki Shop’. Serious education was required to put a stop to it, and that’s what’s required in Scotland now. Knowing the Scots, these attacks might be all it takes – they’re very good at making their collective minds up about something and getting on with it. Look how they tackled the behaviour of the Tartan Army a few years ago. (Although, admittedly, this was largely a (successful) attempt to make the English fans look bad!)

The first step is understanding that you can be proud of something without hating everything else.

And BA's right - if the Scots stopped going on about the English going on about 1966 it would probably never be mentioned again

Aye, best bit of watching the game last night was the Scottish fella in the boozer cheering on Sweden... Good natured banter from all concerned... Not so sure it'd have been so friendly if it were the other way around... :uhoh:

Its a lot more one way hatred/envy from the Scots, bless em..Scotland are more of an insignificance than anything else in football terms,ar'nt they?..Hard to muster the enthusiasm for a fan rivalry from England's point of view these days,Like wishing Lichtenstein get beat.....Tho we do try:p

Where are the Sounesses,Dalglishs,Strachans,Hansons?

Pity.. :D

All thee idiots running about in their footie shirts realy fucking annoy me.90% of them have probably never been near a football ground in their lives. And looking at the state of these fat pie eaters, they certainly have'nt ever played the game.Still live and let live!!!!!

I did hear reports of some pot-bellied balding chap wandering around in 30 degree heat with a 1972 Manchester City top on last week and yes, he did look a fool.

Still no answer to my question though, has anyone any evidence to support Ally's claim that the English are generally racist towards the Scottish?

I agree with you to an extent about certain parts of Scotland having an anti-English sentiment. Those sentiments are usually expressed through violence by people with room temperature IQs and who can't tie their shoelaces properly. I don't have a BBC News article for evidence of English racism towards Scots but it would be naive to assume it just doesn't exist anywhere down here. There are bound to be some chavs wandering the streets when presented with a Scotland flag would shout abuse "Fack off up north etc."

Your average Scots person would have little more than a bit of pisstaking banter for their English counterparts and vice versa, just a bit of a laugh really. The real problem is neds and chavs if you ask me, the average Scottish or English person in the street is not the problem.

I still think the England fan living in Aberdeen should've known better, a little bit of common sense would've avoided him a beating. In an ideal world everyone should be able to wear whichever football colours they like and not get any grief but wearing an England top in Aberdeen is just asking for a kicking in big neon letters; it'll always attract the neds.

As for the Scots bringing up 1966? You've got to be taking the piss?!!? The Engerlish fans and the media down here crow on about '66 far more than any Scot I've ever met  We crow on about you crowing on about it I think would be fair to say :thumb:

And we have a point

The English v the rest of the UK is a bit like the US v the rest of the world. US/England are seen as the bullies. Everyone else hates them, while they don't particularly hate anyone. I'd feel pretty safe walking around here in an Iran or Iraq t-shirt, but I sure as hell wouldn't go to those countries and wear a USA t-shirt! A bit like any one sided rivalry (NY Yanks v Boston Red Sox, for you baseball fans) where the put upon one is much more interested in the rivalry than the putter uponer.

Please don't compare us to the US, there's a good chap. :nono:

Animosity towards Americans in Iraq would be based on all the bombs that have fallen on them recently.

England hasn't bombed Scotland for ages!

And whenever England goes to bomb anyone else, they take loads of Scots with them - loads of Army lads are Scottish.

So that's why they called it "Operation: Get behind the Scots"

I just used those two countries as examples. I know lots of Americans, when travelling abroad, tell people they're Canadian (gonna give Canadians a bad name!). When I visited Bangladesh, my hosts advised the same thing, and I'm not aware that we've ever bombed Bangladesh.
As far as England, I only meant that the rest of the UK/Ireland seem to dislike them, not necessarily the rest of the world.

you don't have to wear an american flag. just put on a pair of levis, eat a can of heinz baked beans and drink a coke or pepsi and you're already showing off your stars and stripes! :evil4:

Yes, now I think about it, you've got a point.

Wonder why it is?

America and England should join forces and beat the shit out of all smaller nations that irritate us by not appearing to like us very much.

That would show them

I've heard the Europeans can spot an American by the white sneakers. Maybe you should add a pair of white Nikes to the list??

I've done all of those things in the last 24 hours.

I also drove a car with a very large V8 engine, ate Mexican food with watery lager for dinner last night, and again today for lunch. By most people's standards I have a large stomach and a fat ass.

I think I may have turned into an American!

Do I win $40?

EDIT: I was also wearing white trainers last night
