Can someone tell me how this Pussycat Dolls reality show possibly gave rise to this quote:
"At its core, this show goes beyond just finding a new Pussycat Doll; it's about female empowerment, self-discovery and personal transformation," said Dawn Ostroff, CW's president of entertainment"
The fact that a female executive could refer to the pussycat dolls as being about "female empowerment" is beyond me. It seems to me that they are more about making men drool and creating unrealistic body images in the minds of young females--neither of which does much to empower females.
I hate reality TV.
I guess we'd have to define what "sexploitation" is and who is being "sexploited". Is it the performer or the end user of the media product that is being "sexploited"? If you contend that it's the performer, I would argue that I don't think anyone put a gun to the head of a mildly talentrd strumpet and made her become a PCD. As evidenced by there being enough interest in becoming a PCD to warrant a television show, I'd say it was quite the contrary.
If you say it's the end user that's being "sexploited", I would say you are more close to being right. We as a society are "sexploited" by Big Media every day. Men are "sexploited", women are "sexploited". We all are.
We are carpet bombed with ads in print, radio and television featuring hot chicks and buff dudes trying to sell us stuff. They are conveying the message that, "Damn! If I just bought that new Mercedes-Benz, I could have a hot lipo-sucked and collagen injected chick sitting in the passenger seat just like the dude in the ad!"
BTW, I hate the word "empowerment".
