Dunno. They showed some aquarium in the US where they allow you to pet them as they swim by, showing how docile they are. Those ones have had their stingers removed, surgically of course, which really doesn't answer your question. Maybe we can google it?

As a biologist, this guy just pissed me off. There is absolutely no need to get that kind of reaction from everything you study. Maybe he wanted to spread the word about conservation, but I think he just used the animals for cheap entertainment.
When I go into the field, it's about observation, not just grabbing everything just to make it mad.
I will not miss this guy.

they have that at sea world here in orlando. rubbery creatures, they are. and soft. i don't think they die when they sting you as far as i know, otherwise they would die when the stingers were removed for the 'petting tank,' i believe.
as for the program he was taping: it was called 'the ocean's deadliest.' fancy that.

Heard this last night,judge for yourself (it is NOT my joke).
On a recent TV show Steve Irwin said that as a kid,Thunderbirds was his all time favorite show. However,he would always have a special place in his heart for Stingray.
Ouch! 
The only creatures he couldn't dominate were parrots. A parrot once did its best to rip his nose off his face. Parrots are a lot smarter than crocodiles.
Germaine Greer also had some very unkind things to say about him, something like nature taking it's revenge.
It caused a bit of controversy here.
When were all these people complaining when he was alive??? I never heard them. Kinda pointless once he's dead, isn't it? Not a reason to destroy the moment of his death.
