Not counting the Labour Conference, there hasnt been a gig in the G MEX for years.

I was supposed to be going to Ireland on 22nd, but obviously thats been changed. Been raped £34 for the privilege of changing my flights.

Who is going then? After the week before in Germany, I'll obviously be doing both.

22nd and 23rd December by the way.

Why would anyone want Marr over Jesse Tobias?

Rourke over Gary Day?

and Joyce over Matt Walker?

Tobias hasn't written songs anywhere near as good as Alain or Boz let alone Marr, they've all been pretty run of the mill I.e. You Have Killed Me vs. Irish Blood, English Heart? He's a decent guitarist live but his songwriting is totally average. Maybe not Marr but bring back Alain eh Moz?

Rourke over Gary Day?

Rourkey actually. Gary Day's a nice bloke an' all but his bass playing never sets a Moz tune on fire. Surely the fault of Alain or Boz for giving him boring riffs to play?! Rourke's playing on Barbarism Begins At Home is fecking ace, pity about the smack and the court case!

and Joyce over Matt Walker?

Matt Walker, any day  After seeing him twice on the ROTT tour he definitely the best Moz solo dummer since Spencer Cobrin.

Deano who? :uhoh:

I don't really have an opinion about the rest of the band, but I just don't agree that any of the post-Smiths guitarists have held a candle to Marr.

I thought this was most obvious when I was sober and stood right next to Jesse* when he tried to do a couple of Smiths songs in Dundee. Just nowhere near the level of skill of Marr.

I was really disapointed in Boz Boorer on the two dates I saw - he didn't play half as well as I thought he would. His best performance was tapping a glass of water, drinking some then tapping it again.

Someone was playing excellent rockabilly guitar on the early post-Smiths material, but that was just one side of Marr. I've never heard anoyone match Morrissey's lyrics and voice as well as Marr, and a lot of Mozz's solo work cries out for him to join in.

Still, it's the best we can do for now. I hope to be there for these gigs.

*Assuming Jesse is that Spanish-looking guiratist that plays with Mozz now?

I'll check what free time I have left for this year, already taking 2 days for the Norder Glasgow gigs.

Not gonna trek up to Manc in the middle of winter to hear him play the same 75min set he did all year..if he adds a London date, then maybe

It will be a different set. Its hard to see them doing no gigs for 3 months and then coming back and doing the same set.

Absolutely- saw Mozza at the apollo this year as well as Marr doing the Manc v Cancer show in January. Marr blew Morissey's version of How Soon is Now of the stage. Moz is good but with Marr he is great.

In all honestly, having heard How Soon Is Now live 18 times, it quite frankly bores the arse off me. The Marr version was good, but the first few times I heard How Soon Is Now it was stupidly awesome.

Morrisseys version (or rather, the Tobias and Farrell version) kicks the arse of the Marr version. i think that night too many people were sucked in by Marr and Rourke doing two famous Smiths songs.

Anyway, i am currently trying to work out where to go for a night out after the gigs. There is a funny argument going on on Solow at the moment about the pros and cons of the Brickhouse as a venue.
