Custom Dictionaries

This could be the most boring thread ever, or a classic.

Microsoft Word and Outlook use a shared custom dictionary.

This is where words get added if you click on 'ADD' when the spell-checker doesn't know them, but you know it's a real word.

I changed jobs recently, so mine's not got very many words in yet. I wish I'd saved the list at my last place, there were hundreds of words, giving a small insight into what I spend the day thinking about!

This is my list in four weeks at the new job:

We use a support ticket style email client in work. You aint allowed custom entries. Which is deeply annoying, as the fuckin thing is clueless about words we have to use all night every night...it knows what "countersignature" is, but "countersignatory" throws it every time, which means you get into a habbit of "clicking through" any objections shown regarding that word. Which has lead more than one person to send "we wrote to your cuntersignatory on.....". It also refuses to believe in a plural of many words, such as cheque, and has a real objection to certain persons being ascribed owenership via an apostrophe....EG "father's" is ok "parent's" (or for that matter "parents'") freaks it right out.

Biggie - is that Don Cheadle or Cheadle Hulme !!

The predictive text on my phone is the same, I've had to spell out so many swear words but now I can insult people really easily

My computer at work bugs me because all the spellings are americanised with 'z' instead of 's' for example.

I don't understand predictive text. Gobbledegook.

i had a loaner phone for a week a while back...

i'm used to the full keyboard of my phone and i was pissed off when I couldn't curse easily. So one night, I just sat down for 45 minutes and put in a fuck ton of curse words.

haha the next person to use the loaner phone will thank me

I hate the way everything autocorrects on my puter... Especially annoying when typing bits of foreign langauge in an otherwise English text... The worst one is it changing German 'wollen' to 'woolen'... Although I did like the way my old mobile used nto predict 'riot' instead of 'pint'...

Radical suggestion here..... turn autocorrect OFF? no?

I have the opposite problem, my spellchecker has decided to no longer work within my email or ms-messenger apps.

Speaking of predictive text, I had an embarassing moment last summer. My friend has split up with her boyfriend and needed cheering up, so I wanted to invite her round for tea then go out for a drink.

Unfortunately this is the text she received.

"Why don't you come round on Friday for a nice neck, we'll go out after"

It was supposed to say 'meal.' After about 2 hours, she realised my mistake!
