Is is THAT expensive in the UK?

In your average pub.. a beer is just over £3.

I'm not one for fine dining.. so an average meal, in say Pizza Express, can fetch >£50 for 4 people.

A large value meal with nuggets is £3.98. Not sure about a Big Mac as thats all i ever get.

It also depends where you are in the UK, up north it's closer to £2 a pint and you can get an ace curry including starter for about £10, couldn't tell you the price of junk food though.

Shouldn't think you'd need to worry about buying a beer while you're here, Nic... The number of people who have said that they'll buy you one!

Engerland is the most expensive bit of the UK, and London is the most expensive bit of England, bt it's not post WWI germany or anything, you don't need a wheelbarrow of cash to buy a loaf of bread ( I hope)

Its pricey, but not as bad as your calculations make out. Just a quick word of advice, Nic: "quid" and "pence" are plural - if you ask someone in a pub how much something costs "in quids and pences" you might get slightly more than a funny look.

Yeah, that sounds right. Your biggest expense will be pubs in London, but it isn't expensive at the prices you gave i.e. equivalent in dollars. A pint of beer is about £3.80 in the centre, but if you see and Wetherspoons they are a bit cheaper.

Like JT says Indian restaurants are usually reasonable and in Pizza Express it will be £7-8 for the actual pizza, but it is all the extras add up. Starbucks is about £2.50-£3 for a capp or latte.

Make sure you avoid using a taxi, the prices are evil

Although you do have to remember that Wetherspoons, as a general rule, is full of scum.

Taxis ANYWHERE in Englan are scary expensive. Got one from Chez Jem to 'orridge station, here in freezin old NI it woulda been 3 quid....over there...fuckin 6.50.

I am debating a tube card or something, but am not at all sre it will be good value unless I'm zooming round London for 3 days.

My taxi company which i use in manchester is very reasonable.

not trying to be with this, but I grew up around quite a bit of hispanics in the south, the ones that come from over the border are termed something thats not nice. But they are in fact the biggest racists I've ever met. Okay, when you're 9 years old and some hispanic is making fun of you for being white,actually mumbling shit, and pointing out to you your skin color....makes you wonder.... not only that they're messy,start grass fires out in the wind,stay drunk all day everyday,play loud ass tejano music all night, and the best part-the screaming contests...not to mention the killing of goats and misc out in the backyard.

they pretty much want to take over the southern states that they think is rightfully theirs i.e....texas,new mexico,arizona,california,maybe louisiana (i don't see that one happening)....while bringing over disease, raising crime, and getting free health care, paid under the table, and illegally bringing family over here. Last I checked, most of my ancestors were documented, even had their goddamned signatures on a few documents, right down to their trade....*ugh*

as for the taxis here. no good. you call the bastards and they never show up half the time. by the time you get to your destination, which is like seven miles away, you pay like 16.00 dollars or more...I've thought about living outside the U.S. before...particularly where there isn't a bomb being set off.....:D

Yes, but most companies who operate this policy have.uk domain names yet only serve Great Britain. And besides how is insurance related to ASDA refusing to disclose where their milk comes from to NI residents ONLY ( check the ad), Or newspapers with huge "FREE GIFT INSIDE FOR EVERY READER" which inside reveal that you have to be IN England Scotland or Wales to actually GEt the gift. And why are we still singled out...there are more bombs in LONDON now than Belfast, amd FAR more violent crime, yet we still pay more. Pure racism. Bad news on the taxi. Are there some kind of weekly pass for the Tube?

I'll check that when I'll be home.. I need to find the best way to move myself then!

You can get a 3 day or 7 day card for the tube. 3 day one is just under £20, but you'll have to wait til you are in London to get it as you are too late to buy online (ysterday I was looking and it would only allow me to book one from the 27th onwards)

Well, I would like to clarify. All adverts for financial services, or legal services, and a dozen other things state "not available to NI scum" on their ads, despite being an allegedly "UK" company. I pay my taxes to Her Majesty, I WORK for her bloody HomeOffice FFS! You can't put "no blacks" on a sign, but "no dogs, no irish" is still allowed, it seems a bit rough to me.

The free gifts thing was stretching it a bit. But the maddest thing is the ASDA advert saying "we know the cows our milk comes from" and "excludes NI" pops up at the bottom of the screen...that's just strange.

Oh, and a point of order, Dr Fradley, you are labouring under the same delusion as most of my so-called alster pratastant bretherin.....NI, and Ulster are NOT synonymous, as the provence of Ulster actually contains 3 couties which belong to the Republic of Ireland.
