If ever something made me not want to go to and see a film it would be you giving it the thumbs up. I was really looking forward to it as well. Would you say it's as funny as Jim Davidson or Bernard Manning?

i'll probably go tomorrow. the orlando weekly, our 'alternative' paper (village voice-y), called it the funniest movie ever made. so. we. shall. see.
Oh hell yeah I'm gonna see it this weekend, not quite sure when though. Apparently Larry David thought it also the funniest film he's ever seen. Good enough for me.

gonna try to watch it tomorrow (Saturday for me) it's not released to a lot of theatres here, not the ones I go to anyway..
Gonna watch it thie eve with lady
,sure it will be as funny as fuck, bet you crazy ass yanks dont get it tho!

i saw it this afternoon. absolutely hilarious and terribly un-PC. the best part: when he's at a gung-ho patriotic american rodeo and he tells the crowd that he supports the 'war of terror' in iraq and hopes george bush sucks the blood of every man, woman and child in iraq. i thought he was going to get lynched!
great stuff, indeed.
it hasn't been released here yet, but has received massive publicity, al good. I'll see it soon.
I saw Borat on the telly the other day and this guy is hilarious. I guess I'm going to see the movie on Monday, while I'm still in Lundun. I have no idea if it's going to be screened in Brazil.
Saw it this afternoon. Very funny...not nearly as much as it's hyped to be, but it's quite good. It spends more time with the "story" than it does with lengthy interviews like in the TV show, but it's got some very good moments.
I'm gonna try and see it Monday. Hopefully Borat will not be execute until after opening weekend grosses :D
I swear Laugh for Laugh it has to be the funniest film EVER! saw it friday night, and i probably missed half the jokes because the entire theater was in stitches!
if he wasnt Jewish the israeli army would have declared war on him after this one
Very funny. Had my own Borat-esque moment at the screening as well. Saw next to some sorority "queens" from the local university in the sold out theater, I don't think they were in any way prepared for the wrestling scene. I could hear them gasp and go "ewww" for a moment, but by then everybody else was doubled over with laughter, and I was crying and my sides hurt. High five Baron!!!
I didn't like it all that much. It was too slapsticky crude for my liking... the naked wrestling was the worst part of the show---not because it was gross--I'm from the internet I know groce--it was just boring and going for LCD.
That wasn't in step with the rest of the movie--which for the most part was really witty. Throwing money at cockroach jews was fucking great!!!
hahaha
Even more disturbing than J.A. "I'm-jus-a-cheeky-scouse-racist-la" K. giving it the thumbs up is the fact that it was the biggest grossing movie last week in the States. Properly nervous now. Going to see it Weds. Hope I'm wrong and it's as funny as I was hoping it was gonna be.
The TV adverts for the film have some strange press quotes - "the funniest film you will ever see, ever." "You'll laugh so hard that half the bloody vessels in your face will burst".
I'll wait for the DVD. I usually fall asleep at the pictures. I've no one to go with anyway.

you're right about the toilet humour. without that, it would have been much funnier. but the 'shapeshifting jews' and the 'running of the jew' in his hometown were fantastic, as was the (very uncomfortable) rodeo scene. i thought they were going to kill him on the spot.
what is most telling about the film is the way a lot of americans still feel about homosexuals, jews and other minorities. cohen got people to say things on camera by pretending to be an anti-semitic, homophobic racist himself. while a lot of what was said was funny, it was funny in a pathetic and disturbing way--like the head of the rodeo and his comment about hanging homosexuals. how cohen got people to speak frankly about their own prejudices on camera and not couch them in softer language--now THAT was witty.
Friggin LOVED this movie! It did work on two very funny levels...the shockin y'all (ugh, sorry for the awful Cuntry reference..), esp the nude wrestling, bringing down a bagful of shit at a fancy dinner party, etc.
What was funniest (and scariest) is how racist/xenophobic/homophobic our country still is (especially below the Mason-Dixon line, which I believe should break off from the US and form their own nation, which the North would defeat in a work week) ![]()
Reminded me of watching Dr Who when I was five. Spent most of the time peeping over a pillow, thinking "NOOOOOOO, he isn't going to....oh shit he did".
I generally hate that kind of cringey humour, but Cohen is a master of it and makes it worth watching.
man i cant wait to go and see this, they showed a few borat tv eps the other nite and i had to turn it over i was laughing so loud i woke the missus up? for our american nooliners i wouldnt beat yourslves up too much about the homo/xeno phobia stuff ,if he had done the same in nearly any country you can think off im pretty sure you would get similar reactions. thankfully many people talk the talk but dont walk the walk if you know what i mean.
For once, a movie that lived up to the hype...![]()
I don't want to ruin the ending for those of you who haven't seen it, but the "traditional Kazakhi marriage" ceremony was hilarious, I have to think a certain Baywatch babe was in on it and exhibits greater reserves of acting talent than previously thought.
And the nude wrestling?...whew, it's gonna take a while to recover from that :D
