I don't want to ruin the ending for those of you who haven't seen it, but the "traditional Kazakhi marriage" ceremony was hilarious, I have to think a certain Baywatch babe was in on it and exhibits greater reserves of acting talent than previously thought.
And the nude wrestling?...whew, it's gonna take a while to recover from that :D

One of the best gags was the ice-cream truck pulling alongside a group of schoolkids who rush to it expecting treats, and the bear pops out and starts roaring at them

The plastic bad at the dinner table was the funniest part for me.

He does some smart casual work w/ Political news and reviews. Couple of weeks ago there were a couple of Class Cheney and Rumsfield skits.

He basically mocks not just Kazahstan but rather the whole Central Asian ethnic type from the European point of view. And it's no secret that all nations have stereotypes and jokes about their neighbour countries. Of course Kazahstan still bears its Soviet past and Borat's character shows it, so you can tell it's definetely not Mongolian or Afghani (though to most Europeans or Americans there seem to be little difference).
As Russian I am genuily bemused by the choice of such a nation. I don't know if people in Russia know about Borat now but if they do they must be bemused, too - because they've always felt that it's them whom the West always mocks and it's the West that always backs up former Russian peripherial states.
Didn't live up to the hype for me. It was very funny in parts but I think you'd need to be pretty unfamiliar with the concept to find it 'the funniest film ever'. It's not that radically different a concept from his original incarnation as Ali G, which when it was fresh, on the 11 O'clock show was hilarious. The characters wear a bit a thin, once you get a handle on them but I can understand why an audience outside of the UK might be a bit more blown away than I was.

thats saved me writing a paragraph about my thoughts on it, although when he first got to NYC i haven't laughed that much in a longtime
Now that I've had a few days to sober up from the homoerotic wrestling scene (try typing that sentence ever again), I can say that "Borat" might not necessarily be the funniest movie ever.
But it's the funniest one I've seen in a long, long time.
When I first saw the ads for it, I did think the movie would just be stapled-together interviews (and a lot of the interviews, if not all of them, were in the show), but it worked for me because I went in with the expectation only that it would be funny.
So, I would give it a 8.5 out of 10
Too damn funny. This was the only movie in which I wished that a scene would end because it was too funny. Yep, the naked wrestling fight. Wifey and I actually staggered out of the theater and had to stop laughing before we could drive away.
Looks like I won't get to see this locally. Wonder if this hasn't pushed a few buttons over here, recent outbursts against the west, restriction of gaming to two zones in the new year and the banning of right hand drive cars??? Oh well, don't drive and guess i can get another job.

it has pushed a few buttons. the kazakh president was very angry and stated very clearly that kazakh women aren't bought at markets. really.

Was at the aftershow. Have to make it before new year to test your device, saunas are worth the trip though!
