those things really should have some sort of sensor on them.. it's not safe for them to go up when cars are over them.. even if the assholes aren't supposed to be there..
it's not like you should intentionally hurt someone because they are doing something wrong.
especially with the way that compo is given out over there...it seems to be a money pit waiting to happen.

I agree that these bollards are dangerous, what would happen with people crossing the road over these bollards as they come up (ouch)? What if a fuel tank was ruptured? Also, the cost of installing the bollards must be extortionate, and surely an unnecessary expense.
However, people shouldn't use bus lanes. It always pisses me off when some dickhead can't wait a minute for traffic to move and zooms up the bus lane putting pedestrians at risk.

I've seen those things elsewhere (Winchester?) and the warning signs are completely clear.
Forget compensation, I doubt their insurance even paid out.

I'm always amazed at just what a hurry drivers can be in....and how stupid that makes them...reminded me of the driver on our new highway the other day...bastard was in such a hurry that he was weaving in and out of all the lanes, and apparently couldn't see the far left lane had been blocked off, and smashed into a large concrete barrier...I laughed my ass ofF at the fucktard!!!

If they're well signposted,then they've got no excuse.But I was up Liverpool last May,trying to park near Korova Bar to go and see John Foxx.Circled round for a bit,saw this lane which a cop car just pulled into.The only signs on display was a 20 mph speed limit sign at the beginning of the lane.And I narrowly missed these bollards coming up. I don't think causing intentional damage should be on the council agenda,whatever their reasons.

I take it the buses and other authorised vehicles must have some kind of sensor that activates them,though it seems a bit harsh-what if there was a baby in a car,it could seriously hurt them. Manchester city centre is a bugger to drive round if your not used to it,and out-of-towners could easily make a wrong turn.
