Aberdeen Order did the Scream last night and what a top gig it was.
Mani just likes being in a band, looning around the stage, letting on to the crowd and generally enjoying himself in front of the biggest bass rig in the world. It would have been rejected by Spinal Tap for being OTT.
The lead guitarist (Robert?) is my new hero - what a player. I'll be writing him a letter about his playing action though - he'd get better results if he held his guitar correctly and balanced his weight on his feet. He’s the only original member I recognised, but seems relatively sane.
It was good to see the music actually being made – I couldn't detect too much in the way of backing tracks or sequenced stuff. Just rawk, baby. They murdered Damaged though, which was a pity.
One highlight was Country Girl, during which the band radiated a type of rock smugness I’ve never witnessed before. And why not? Not many bands get to batter the charts with a good old rock number these days. Rocks was a triumph too. That song just… Rocks.
My man of the match was the drum roadie, who sat on an easy chair behind the drum riser and, basically went mental throughout the gig. He seemed to touch ground between songs, just for as long as it took to have a quick look at the kit, make any adjustments and he was off again. He danced like a loony, losing his shirt to reveal an impressive collection of tattoos, air drumming like Animal in the Muppets. At one point he appeared to be using a large hunting knife to repair some cables. Proper rock circus stuff.
