none of the native francophones I deal with in my job speak english--or speak it very well.
It gets a bit frustrating beings as though the only reason that Canada is a bilingual country is to deal with 4% of the population who are native french speakers and the ones I speak with anyway, can not be assed to learn to speak English...especially those working for US companies or Anglophonic Canadian companies.
Another way of putting the above: because of 4% of the population Anglophones have to learn French but some Francophones would rather set shit on fire than learn English to help deal with the other 96% of the population.
A lot of it is bourne out of stubborness and the desperate sense to keep their national identity--which I can agree with. I don't think this "separate nation within a country" stuff that the tories came up with is going to fix the problem. I'm all for PQ to secede--won't happen tho-- it prolly won't come up for a vote now.
(Not living in Canada anymore I do not have to really give a fuck about it I guess).
I spoke with a mail clerk yesterday because none of the team members I was working with knew english...and that's in Montreal!
I also want to clarify again--I didn't say all I said some--obviously it's not Nicos. He is a grown up cultured person and NOT setting fire to places where they have signs up in English.

4%? Check your numbers, we're 25%. There are 7 millions of us, not counting those outside Quebec.
And well, it's hard to speak well english if you don't practice it... I listen to english TV to keep my ears in shape, but I always need a small time to adapt before talking correctly, so I appologize to all those who suffered from it while in England 
I'm sorry to say, but do you really expect people to be 100% bilingual when they don't have to use the language in their daily routine?
It's why Cozzie and Comrade are moving to Quebec... So we'll be using French in our daily routine. :p

The community French club comes into my bar every Tues. They don't tip and treat the waitstaff like pricks. We used to blame it on the false notion that they were French. It turns out 95% of them are from Quebec.
