Is everyone sifting through other parts of the site,or what? Unless yall are bots or something, which I doubt. Just weird.....lol.

Well since I run Linux, an browse with Opera, my computer is never offline, and my browser is always open, therefore I appear logged in even when sleeping.

Another example of why cropped up today.......
Been playing Solitaire on the win2k Boxen in work, when there's fuck all better to do, and doing nothing at all would lead to passing out in yer chair,(usually about 5am). So on Win2k you get 1 game of bog standard patience with one deck of cards ( on our version anyway). I was bored spineless today waiting on a dvd test encode getting far enough for me to check audio sync meaningfully, and I though.....hmmmm Solitaire (although that's a dumb ass yankism, the game's called feckin patience). So sure enough, KDE comes up trumps with "Kpatience" asone of it's 500 or so Kdefault Kprograms Kwith Kthat Knaming Kscheme. I fired it up.
There's 26 different variations of patience, including clock patience, and other bizarre ones, you can also choose from 8 different decks of cards with 15 or so different backings.
I don't understand why Yous Yanks don;t go for it EN MASSE for the sheer freedom of choice aspect.
I have had those Linux discs for three weeks now. I've been meaning to install it for a while now. Perhaps I'll get some time to do it over the Chrissie break.

I'd recommend playing with a run-from-cd version first mate, to see if it's really worth your while. Also, be REALLY careful with the install, do NOT fuck over your existing windows drives. I find it easiest to use partition magic or other windows tool to wipe a portion of the drive into no-man's land, unpartitioned free space....then build the linux partitions in there with the linux installer.
What distro have you got...it matters in terms of how much WOW there will be and how much ulceration of the stomach will occur.
And when the time comes, we'll take this off-board and I'll help out.

While all the actual software is the same, the way it's glued together and the way you install and remove it varies like mad accross distros, as does where they stash config files. Seriously....get a copy of knoppix First and play about with it with no effort and no risk ( and not much speed either, tho if you have stupid amounts of RAM it can be tolerable).
EDIT: just had a look at ubuntu's site....hmmm looks quick and slick, but very primitive and not very linuxy, I reckon it'll be a joy for basic use, but a twisted nightmare for complex shit like ripping dvd's and basically anything else that is not pre-installed....Mandriva suffers the same thing REALLY badly, it's a stunner, but god help you if you spot a program you fancy that Mandriva didn't buil and ship with it for your convenience.
