A changing mole

It's been a right torture for more than a month now and no, I don't mean my marriage lol

I had a dodgy looking mole from my leg removed and the test result came back as 'it is not A skin cancer, I repeat it is not A skin cancer but… the cells are in fact a bit naughty' (whatever!!) according to GP No.1 and then according to GP No. 2, it is something she referred to as 'precancerous', whatever that means; I refuse to search the net in order to learn more cause it's all bullshit and very scary if you ask me........ So, the next thing they told me was I should see the specialist ASAP, while they are waiting for THE FUCKIN’ SECOND TEST RESULT to come back (some sort of a second opinion, fuck them!) they even made an appointment for me, to cut a long story short they seemed to be panicking a bit lol

So I went and I saw the specialist and guess what?? He said ‘It is a changing mole’. No shit, Doc! I knew that myself, that's why I'm here in the first place, remember?? (um, I didn’t say it out loud; although maybe I should have) He said he might cut more of my skin in that area (probably desperately looking for melanoma) but it depends on what the second result says. WTF? I mean really WTF? And could melanoma cells be recognized immediately??

Today is exactly one month since I've had my very first minor operation done and I still don't know whether I'm fine or not. Also today is exactly 2 weeks since my GP said it would take 2 weeks for the second result to come back. NOTHING

I know you don’t get much Sun in England but I bought SPF 40 just in case. but... Could it be too late??

To be continued... (erm, hopefully) bwahahaha

ps – and Jemmy, you keep away from sun beds, you silly cow. I’m telling you this cause you’re all orange :-O

pss - A very special mention to noolers who have been with me through these tough times :)

This is the exact situation I'm glad my dad's a doctor.

I slip it in the conversation, and for some reason, the doctors seems to finally care and do their jobs...

My understanding of what you have written is that the first and second doctors actually essentially agreed on diagnosis they just phrased it differently, precancerous cells are not cancer, there is the possibility that they could become cancerous but they might not, obviously the best thing to do is to get rid of them as quickly as possible to remove that risk.

Because of this they want to do their up most to check that they have removed all of the precancerous cells, so they do a second test to make sure that they have removed all the precancerous cells from around the area this means taking out enough that all the cells around the edges show up as normal healthy cells. The reason they may cut again and take more is that if the test shows some precancerous cells still at the edges, meaning they will want to continue to remove them until they reach the healthy cells.

The fact that the docs are being so thorough with you is a good thing, it means they are making sure that all the precancerous cells are gone.

I hope you get your result soon and don't panic if they need to remove a bit more, it's just to insure that all the precancerous cells that have a higher risk are removed. :thumb:

better out than in. you can't be too careful. i had a mole cut from my back a couple of years back. it didn't look too good, but the biopsy came back as noncancerous as well. then again i a couple of years or so who knows what could have happened to it.

you can't be too careful with moles and potential skin cancer,

Otherwise, moles and cancer are NOT good news. Hang in there, and be uber-careful and such. I mean that.

Now, time to resume

So what's the news Jeff? Hopefully it went ok. I had my biopsy results back within a week. Yeh it was benign. The strange thing is, I don't really get moles.

Good luck to both of you.

Luck and more Best wishes from here too. Do consider being as Politely in your face w/ the Dr.s. Call the Office and their shots if you've any hesitations. That's why  they're there. In a sense, is just a Service Industry.

Hope all is well Maya... The majorly important thing is that they have caught this early- any required treatment is far more successful in this situation and if it remains precancerous don't be too alarmed as nearly everyone develops precancerous lesions at some point in life- it's the monitoring of it; that it stays that way- that's what's important.

Best wishes!

My mom used to have to have those cut off. I'd be optimistic and say no news is good news. Surely if there was something seriously wrong, the doc would have let you know by now? Good luck and please let us know what's going on. I'm with you about staying out of the sun. That's damn near impossible here in Texas, but us pale chicks will long have clear unlined complexions when our pals who fried themselves are paying big bucks for dermabrasion and such..... Stay positive and I'll be thinking positively for you.

awww cheers guys :)

I phoned the surgery the other day regarding my second test result but it's only the one from February they said they have and that sometimes it takes a bit longer than 3 (or is it 4 already?) weeks for the results to come back. Gotta rely on both my GP and the specialist to phone me the moment they have it back. It would be shame to have to cut it all over again, the wound seems to be healing nicely

Keep chasing them (in a week or so)... chances are they won't tell you if all's well... I know it sounds bizarre but that's standard medical practice!
