I saved the money from my paper round and the first albums I can remember buying were:

Damned, Damned, Damned - The Damned

Setting Sons - The Jam

Days In Europa - The Skids

i thought someone else bought it for you?! that's the second time you've mentioned it - i think you have a soft spot. i have it on cd, steve, was dancing round my kitchen to high fidelity only last night. and i'm not kidding. fucking brilliant. you're welcome to borrow it...

first album i bought for myself was the circus, erasure. but mostly i nicked my big brothers' rekkids.

When I was about eleven years of age (circa 1978) I went into my local Library in Leicester and found that they were selling a slightly battered copy of Kraftwerk's Autobahn LP on the Vertigo label. I thought it looked interesting so I paid 50p and rushed home to listen to my first album.

I remember putting the vinyl on my Dad's Garrard deck and listening through his Sennheiser headphones. I was transfixed and this started a 30 odd year addiction to music. For a while I followed the logic that I should only buy German records. This led to some great discoveries in the import bins : Popol Vuh, Neu, Agitation Free, Can etc. It also led to some dodgy purchases Nena's (99 Red Balloons) first album was awful.

Joy Division were the first non-German Group I got into (something about the glacial quality of Unknown Pleasures sucked me in). Consequently when New Order went all Kraftwerk I couldn't have been more pleased!

Must have missed this thread first time round, erm first album I bought was Madness "The Rise And Fall", or it could have been Ultravox's "Quartet" (had the song "Hymn", if memory serves me correctly)?...

First one I got given was either "Ludwig & Friends" (about a bloomin' cartoon egg on kids TV playing classical music) or a childrens TV album (featuring Bernard Cribbens, and other embarrassing crap)! :laugh:
