But I figured most of you NOOLers would know better than I would. Basically, a classmate of mine that I talk to on occasion said she wanted to fix me up with someone for a date. I don't know this girl well and I'm wondering why she thought of me of all people to set up. But, anyway, should I go with it or decline? I've never been fixed up by a friend, let alone a classmate. So, have ant of you NOOLers been fixed up for a date through a friend, co-worker, ect.. of yours and how did it go? Or should I just run the other direction?

Ugh... the always lovely [NOT] blind date.

Always hated 'em. Friends always stuck me with the losers, thinking it would work out.

One of my friends tried to set me up with a 30-year-old Muslim shorty who told me I was beautiful... EVERY TWO FUCKING MINUTES! :deathglare: Luckily we were at a club, on 80's alternative/new wave night, and the second a Siouxsie and the Banshees song came on I was on the dance floor and never got back to the creep. He wasn't even cute to begin with. :cringe:

But go for it anyway. If all else fails, say you have an early bedtime [lots to do the next day], and call it an early night. 'Nuff said, end of!

Actually, this girl is fixing me up with another guy, not a girl.

And the worst that can happen is that I get rejected.

LOL, you sound just like me! Well, except that I like girls. Anyway, I would recomend fighting the wuss instinct that we both share. If I could go back in time to when I was your age, I'd probably do the opposite of whatever my instinct told me!
In short, go on the date. If you don't hit it off, you will likely never see this person again anyway. It's not like you're dating a coworker or classmate.

Yup. Gotta agree. If you need a blind date, your eyesite is the least of your problems. But, who knows, you could be missing out if you dont.

Live. A. Little.

Go on the blind date. If you like 'em, excellent, if you don't, or they don't like you, there-are-plenty-more-fish-in-the-sea.

You have absolutely nothing to lose.

I've had a fair few blind dates in me yoof and some were good, some just so-so. All part of life's rich tapestry.

You're gay though, yes? Is gaydar not a going concern in the US like it is amongst the gay community in the UK?! Don't see why people need blind dates at all these days - with gaydar you get to see all the intimate details up close before you agree to meet! :eek3:

I've been on dates that may have well have been blind dates cos I was drunk when I met the girl in question and couldn't remember what they looked like the next day. I would arrange to meet them in a pub that I knew was always dead and get a seat with a good view of the door in the hope that my memory would spring to life once the "date" walked through the door. Always did, thankfully.

Just thinking back to a couple blind dates I had, actually the only one that went well was the one that the girl had the crush on me. The couple that we didn't know each other didn't do so well.

Looking back (as hindsight is 20/20) I think the problem is that niether of you desire to look "needy", so both parties put up a frontthat says"I don't need you", though inside they might feel differently.

If you go, keep an open mind, and if they are a bit harsh or rough, just remember that they are feeling as akward about it as you.

I'm bisexual, not gay. I don't have good gaydar and I don't go out telling the whole world that I'm bisexual or go around acting like some big queen.

I guess I had one blind date. Wound up dating her a few times but nothing came of it. All in all, I was still glad I took a chance and did it. Plus, she moved off to Hawaii and I never had to see her again. :D

ahhh, just remember, you can't hit a home run with the bat on your shoulder...

I still say you go for it...might turn out quite well...

Never been out on a blind date, but it would be no big deal, I would imagine.

Just have fun and live a little. And if you don't get on with the person, big whoop. A blind date is like any other date -- you can just call it a night if you so wish. :thumb:

I was referring to the website, not your intuition!

So Jesse...what ever happened to this dillema?

As most people have said, go for it. At least you'll know for sure then if you enjoyed it, rather than wondering what would have happened, maybe for years to come. Best of luck
