The Verve, Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury were back recording together in a London studio last week.

After a summer break, they will return to the studio to complete their next album.

The Verve will also return to the live arena in November, playing the following 6 shows in the UK:

Fucking hell. How many times can you split up and reform? Again!!

For the record, I still firmly believe that in their heyday circa '92-93 they were the most astonishing live act I've ever seen. Went rapidly downhill after the second album, natch, but for a few years they were amazing. First time I saw them (supporting Ride, FFS) they were playing in front of about 150 people in Stoke, Ashcroft drooling everywhere and openly dropping acid on stage.

Better than it probably sounds, honest....

Getting back together, spliting up, getting back together, spliting up.

Thats one way of gaining publicity for a new album. Unforunately as New Order proved with WFTSC it doesn't mean good sales.

Plus, they were wank anyway (The Verve).

HEY! I like the Verve. 'Urban Hymns' and 'A Northern Soul' were the albums I listened to from them back in high school, which ranked highly with the Order, Radiohead, and Oasis.

I still think those are two of the best albums I ever heard. Still listen to them too, every once in a while.

ETA: Cheers and fuckin' Kudos that they're getting back together for some new stuff!! Can't wait to hear it!!

I always felt that their "second coming" (when they added THE to their name and then brought out their Northern Soul and Urban Hymns albums) was them trying to be epic on an Echo and The Bunnymen sort of scale.

Too bad they weren't a PATCH on Echo and The Bunnymen - who are so Godlike, that no other band can ever compare to them - no matter how much they tried to - or even see fit to lick the dirt from Ian McCulloch's shoes.

That's pretty much spot on. As "Verve" they were great; once "The" got added they went wank.

Dunno why they're bothering - I read after the second split that they'd all made so much money from "Urban Hymns" (and the subsequent retrospective sales of their back catalogue) that none of them would ever have to work again. Nick McCabe - always the genuine talent in the band - has spent much of his time working on waaaaay-out-there avante garde collaborations since.

I'd go and see 'em if I thought we'd get the early singles/first LP, but I imagine they'll largely stick to the sub-U2 tripe that made them famous.

Ho hum. I won't get fooled again.

I didn't realise that the Verve could elicit such feelings of anger and apathy from people... Ah, music!

get on it Snorri... i dug it out after a young whippersnapper mate of mine reckoned that it was their best album (I was arguing for A Northern Soul) but I reckon he was kind of right. Plenty of big old heavy guitar wigouts!

Actually, I've never heard 'A Storm in Heaven', as it never really was found in shelves in the music stores nowadays. :(
