Hi,

I heard some really bad news this evening and thought this was the best place to pass it on to everyone,as I dont have numbers anymore for most of you.

I'm sure a lot of you will remember Collette,(Cheeky Monkey). I'm thinking of the old members, Jarvo, Johnny Giles, Jonathan, Gordie, Paul,Tim, Stevie-Boy, Kezzie, Shug, Jeff, Muffy, Grahame, Don, etc etc. Well this message was posted on the Charlatans forum by her boyfriend. I was informed of the news by a mutual friend.

Collette Adams 07/11/1977 to 28/06/2007. For those of you who know her I bring the sad news of her passing yesterday afternoon at the ridiculously young age of29. I would have preferred to text some of you directly but I don't have access to your numbers at the moment. I'm not even sure that this is an appropriate thing to do but I would hope you show the appropriate level of respect. I'm devastated.

I;m sure you'll all be shocked to hear the news, I'm really upset about it, 29 is no age to die. Quite alot of us knew her well, and remember nights out in Manchester together and the infamous trip to Paris. There were good times and bad times, and no matter what, she didnt deserve this.

If I find out anymore news I'll get back to you.

Liv  :(

I know, I found about 5 hours ago and I'm still in shock. Feel really sad, last time I saw her she was a mess. I really dont know how she died, I just hope things didnt get too bad for her.

This is just awful.

She gave me a lift to one of the meet-ups in Manchester when I was a poor student living in Stafford and couldn't afford to travel up. We'd just met and within 5 minutes we were singing along at full volume to Love Vigilantes in her car. That song will have a different meaning for me now whenever I listen to it, I guess.

The really strange thing is that I was just thinking about that weekend yesterday for no real reason.

I'm 27 this year... for her to pass away at 29 is just horrible.

My deepeset sympathies go out to her family and friends.

Rest In Peace, this is indeed sad news.

I will do the honors by quoting some of here messages.

"i was 9 when watching totp with the folks and announced to my parents that 'when i grow up i don't want to be a vet anymore - i'm getting married to that man (that would have been mr sumner!)' quite an odd thing they thought at the time - and still did 7+ years later when ever i brought a new boyfriend home cue dad - you didn't meet that bloke from new order yet then! i've resigned myself to the fact i'm not likely to in tamworth either!"

"What a question - Barney sings like an angel on run wild and the other slowies but you need a bit of variety and he surely CAN cut it on the rockier ones - sometimes feel he needs to cut down on the amount of howling and whooping though - be fair Barney you are a talented boy musically you don't need to try to be a cowboy to impress us... bless him :happytongue:"

"I sang my little heart out this morning to BLT in the car much to the amusement of white van man on the M42. I've got one of those changer things that you can shuffle the CD's/ tracks so every time a new order song comes on that's my favourite - i'm too indecisive. so for the morning it will be BLT (I am still singing it to the dismay of the muppets i work with - but i don't know whether it's the singing or the song that pisses them off) :("

"I love BLT (song not sandwich being a momentarily lapsed vegetarian ;) ) Although my fave song usually changes frequently, I always go back to this as being my one of my ultimate fave's - the other being AOC. If the next NOOL shandy fest is in Brum I could almost guarantee it WILL get played (so long as I can remain upright long enough :o) and it would be nice as I'm normally the only one left on the dancefloor leaping around like a freak. :("

"Hola People! Perhaps it should be Cheesy Monkey? :o Fleeting visit only via neighbours computer, had to see the photos! Bye Again x"

She contacted me last year to have her profile removed if I remember well, very sad news.

unfortunatley, I joined the board a little late and never had the pleasure of meeting her in person or cyberspace but very sad news, indeed.

My heart goes out to those friends and family.

So, after I read this thread I went into town to visit a few customers - walking through TempleBar in beautiful sunshine (even though it's cloudy!) ant the ONLY song I heard, playing out from a cafe (LeMon Jelly) was BLT

you never hear BLT on the radio in Ireland

I thought - "that's appropriate".

I'm presuming that it was 98fm playing - they seem to have a DJ who frequents NOOL - he certainly plays NO on his weekday afternoon show frequently. if it was him, then it was played for Collette, if it was some weird cosmic coinsidence (which I NEVER believe) then it was for Collette anyway.

he already knows fella, i spoke to him today. I'll tell him what you said when i see him next weekend xxx I think we're all in shock. I think even Collette herself would be the first to admit she was no angel but she deserved better than this. :-(

Agreed, and Amen.

In her memory [will be listening to BLT and AoC later on, I promise--LWTUA's on at the moment], I somehow feel the following should be posted--I wrote this on 12 May, and somehow, today, it just fit. And I think this poem says it for those of us who mourn, but have this little light called Hope.

~ Hope. ~

there is nothing greaterthan the light of hopethrough the darkestdepths of despair.even in the midst of chaos, all seems to fall into place.life goes on,though we are not the same.seasons go by,friends grow distant, family grows apart, time goes by.we live,we change,we grow.but with growing, with changing, with living, comes great pain.the life we livecosts usthe price of painthat we suffer.but with thedarkenss of sorrowcomes thelight of hope.sorrow is always there,as it is the pricewe livefor the happinesswe have.we are not promisedinstant joy,we are not guaranteedtomorrow:the silence, the fear, the chaosthat comes with the next sunrise.we live in uncertainty nowas we have always been, all our lives.but the shadows of uncertainty give way to light, fear gives way to hope.all that we once knew--family, friends, loved ones--will pass away.we cannot escape our fate.just as we meet the crossroads of change,we soon meet the threshold of death, just as all living things do.dreams will soon end, visions fade, fears will cease, all turns to gray.hope stays.

I don't know... it just seems fitting. This poem.

*ETA - Edited to add - It's been raining most of the day here in Florida. I'm thinking that's heaven mourning for her family and friends. I don't know... I guess I'm just an emotional NO Angel for that.God bless from the Small-Town Order. :nonono:*

May the soul of beloved Collette, by the Mercy and Love and Light of the Highest Above, rest in peace.+ Amen. :shine:

Seriously sad news.

She hadn't had it easy, had she Cheeky Monkey? Her fiance (or was it actually her hubby?) had gone down with meningitis shortly before/after? they were married and had died fairly quickly, at such a young age.

And now this.. . :(

Give my best to JS when you see him at TITP, Liv.

She never really recovered after he died. We all got caught up in the fall out afterwards i'm afraid. It was a sad time. I find it odd all the messages from people who didn't know her, It wasn't easy being Collette's friend, but i think we'll all miss her in one way or another. I hope her family can heal now and i wish them all the best for the future.
