New Radiohead album

Doybt that they ever sign a contract with a label now, whats the point? They've proved they dont need one, they'll just do it themselves.

First listen, patchy. Played it all weekend, im convinced its their best effort since OK Computer now. Although its still very much love them or hate them.

Yeah, for the first time since "OK Computer" they sound like a BAND again, the record has a great live feel to it. You can actually hear the drummer and bassist again - previous albums had a bit of a muddy sound. I think Nigel Godrich has learned his lessons as well.

Look forward to the second disc.

Many people downloaded it even if they wouldn't buy the album, I'm quite sure of it.

But they now know that for 5 quid they would do more money than with a label.

but out fo that 5 quid they'll probably see more of the cash than they would with a record label,who take there 50% cut or whatever it is, the printer gets his 10/% delivery gets his 5% etc

Well they've made over £10m in first week. And this is before the £40 box thingy comes out. I can't see any argument. Its genius, if you have the volume and the music to back it up.

The record company they were with must be gutted. The likes of U2, Oasis, Bon Jovi etc must be watching very closely.

It probably sounded like a really stupid idea, but in theory it is perfect. After all, you buy a CD - rip it to your computer then stick it on an iPod. So 99% of the time the CD would sit on the shelf.

Paying full price for mp3s just doesn't sound right to me. Would you pay the big price for a 2nd generation tape when you can guy the first one ?

Mp3s are compressed.. bring mess lossless, then I'll pay.

Yeah, mp3s are not something it feels right to pay for. At least make it available as flac files, then I might go for it.
