erm , although i never caught em live i've still got the cassette of their gig in Norwich April 92 and the songs that were soon to appear on their Babe Rainbow album pissed on the recorded studio versions on said album

I agree with Johnny - The House Of Love were excellent live, though the recorded version of 'Shine On' is one of my favourite songs ever.
The Chameleons were excellent live too, as were Bauhaus

I had the misfortune of turning on the telly the other night and finding BBC1 broadcasting a live gig of his .Did you see it? Needless to say i was scrambling frantically for the remote control
talking heads. Honestly they didn't make much sense to me until i saw 'stop making sense'. I Still don't think their proper albums capture their energy.

New Fast Automatic Daffodils used to be wicked live, but shite on record. For some reason, no one could capture the live energy on record. Hannett tried and failed big time.

i really do think hannet was genius, but you have to admit that joy division would of been much more heavier without him. I wouldn't trade his production but can you imagine New dawn fades without him. Would be heavier then shit.
aye would have been interesting to hear what they would have sounded like without Hannett .... who knows.Would have liked to hear Atrocity Exhibition without that workmans drill sound but then again it adds to the track.
I actually found Closer too heavy on first listen all those years ago and didn't appreciate it til way later.Unknown Pleasures on the other hand i loved on first listen

I dunno, I like Hannet with Joy Division, because the tracks sound timeless and fresh on the radio today... he tried the same with the New FADS; stripped them down, and it didnt work at all. Last band he produced I believe, and I understood they had an accident with him in a shopping trolley or summink. At the time, New FADS were building such a huge fearsome live rep, all they needed was a producer who could cut some of what they did onstage, to break into the mainstream. Second album was better in 1994, but by then it was too late.

Unfortunately with the New Fads he made them sound like it had been recorded in 1979, when in the early 90's a more richer sound was required, as NO had done with Technique.
