Hello to all of our American cousins.

As you all know, I have long been a fan of America, particularly her wonderful people.

On a recent trip to America, I continued to collect the special edition quarters and have nearly finished my collection.

As it may be some time before I get to visit the States again, I would be grateful if any of you fine people could send me the following:

Michigan California Minnesota N Dakota Washington Wyoming Utah

And all of the 2008 ones (which complete the series):

Oklahoma New Mexico Arizona Alaska Hawaii

I would also love one of the Kansas ones which say "IN GOD WE RUST" on the front. Apparently, they are quite common.

In return, I will of course send something to at least the value of $3 + postage!

The completed set will be mounted in a display case (nothing fancy, we bought it from Walgreens) and go to my Mother's school to encourage the children to learn more about your fine country.

God bless you all.

God bless America.

Do you have that lovely map display for the coins?

I'll keep my eyes open for them.

right, now i have from your wanted list:

north dakota 2006 minnesota 2005

I'll try not to spend them. I work for a major shipping company so it's not really a hassle for me once i collect the $3.00.

GOD BLESS.

Nah, it's a cardboard folder with a crappy plastic bit to hold the coins. They keep falling out though, so we might upgrade to the crappy map.

Cheers :thumb:

Which versions of coins??? The "P" Philidelphia, or the "D" Denver minting.... you know you don't have the whole set unless you have BOTH mintings!

(That should keep hime busy!:evil4: )

It's just so primary children can see the coins.

I'm not starting a serious collection.

(Well I wasn't until then...)

I rather like their coinage, not SO fussed on the notes, but the coins are good. Really love the rolls of quarters, there's something very aestheticly tactile about them.

Yanks eh? Hard to really hate em when you're surrounded by them, cos you get reminded that some of them are normal and pleasant and intelligent, it's just that they're note allowed outside the country, on TV or on the net

I found those I met over there to be either really nice or really annoying, there were very few people I was undecided about.

76% of conversations between Americans follow the format:

"Where are you from?" "We're from X" "Oh really?" "Yes" "How nice" "And where are you from?" "We're from Y" "Oh really?" "Yes" "How nice to meet you" "How nice to meet you too" "Have a safe trip back" "And you".

And that's it.

Now what's that all about? What are they REALLY talking about? It's code, isn't it. I feel sure that these couples, who are always of a certain age, write down the details of the people they meet in a notebook, which is passed from generation to generation. A master list of the home towns of all the people they meet.

And I really did have the following conversation, with a bloke on the train:

"This weather is cold" "Yes, but at least it's not raining" "That's true. Where are you from?" "Manchester, England" "Really?" "Yes, really. And where are you from?" (I know the drill) "I'm from Delaware." "Really?" "Yes really. And you know, it's funny that you're from Manchester because there used to be a company in Delaware called Manchester Plastics. It was right across the street from where I live." (I was not ready for that). "Oh... err and were they from Manchester England?" "I don't know. The Germans bought the company and closed the plant down". "..." My mouth was opening and closing but nothing was coming out. The guy was looking at me. I could see that he thought it was odd that I didn't have some kind of response to this. Finally, he moved on. "I have a cousin who lives in London." I laughed a bit. Maybe a bit hysterically actually. "Really?" "Yes really. "Where in London does he live?" "I'm not too sure." "Was he born in London?" "No, Ireland."

These people aren't fools. They know what's going on. And they're communicating it to one another in code.

I know I've got whatever coins ya might need, Big, that others don't have, though I don't keep a folder for mine, I just toss 'em in a container to be sorted when the whole program's over.

As for the typical casual "conversation", dunno if you've been in luck as to have one where it's lengthened by a couple of minutes as the two parties try to recall everything they know about where the other person is from. Sometimes it's rewarding, but most of the time, not so much

I had more rewarding chats than that in Jesusland (or the United States of America as it was called back in 1995). They were more or less the same, but with a bit pasted in involving them being called Kawalski, and was "being gore" far from Gal-Way where there granny was from. Nobody thankfully said "ahhh Ireland? do you know $GEEZER"

Honestly, take it from me Engerlish friends, get yer best Dublin Brogue on you when over there and you'll want not for ale or quim. Best bit is, it wont matter if it's a shit accent, on the rare chance they even look suspocious tell them you're from aughnapouchall in deepeest county Kerry, and people there speak funny. Scots and Welsh order, you'll get away with it as is, just subsitute some pissy backward Irish town for whatever pissy backward Scottish/Welsh town you're from.

No, you are not a nerd Ron!

I am a philatelist (stamp collector), and I am a member of local philatelic clubs here. I also collect coins, but not as much as my love for stamps. These are Royal hobbies Ron, so you don't have to be ashamed of it.

Indeed!

You got a problem with our hobbies??

Clearly, these are two of the most popular hobbies in the world. So we are not different with the rest of the collectors...

I'll look through Colin, I may have some of the older ones you want. I can definitely get you the 2008 ones. I'll just pay attention.

What you should collect next are the dollar coins with the Presidents on it. I'm not sure which one they're up to now, because I don't see them that often.

(and shut up Canadians we had dollar coins first we're not trying to be like you. Sorry we made them gold because people were being retarded and used them like quarters)

Hell I put on my piss head Derry accent and get drinks from guys who don't suspect anything even when I slip up and say something that blows my spot like "oh i remember when the Challenger exploded we were watching it in AM Kindergarten" :P
