Er-hm, 'scuse me, maybe my ignorance is slipping (but I'm not often wrong, and I think I'm right again.) The Anglo-Saxons are of English/Germanic descent, The French (Long Live The Auld Alliance against the Sasanach invaders!) and the Scots are of Celtic (pushed from France long ago) and Gaulish descent (and obviously many others). Few French would claim kinship with either The Angles or The Saxons (except possibly a few near the German border, and that also from long ago.)

But Jiphy would probably know more about this than I do?

Alright, so maybe I need to brush up on my world history, too. I just always had the impression that western Europe, excluding Spain, was considered "Anglo-saxon," but I'mp robably wrong.

Not everyone in the US who is white is of Anglo-saxon descent, and a good portion of Americans aren't white. Plus, we're so far removed from any type of European relation (unless, of course, your ancestors came over here during the 20th century, and even then, you're still distant), that we're not really relatives. We just share some common background -- maybe.

i said some mixed.meh. full blown scottish,dutch,english,and indian in my immediate family. even if it is distant , it doesnt get erased out of the genetics.

If you don't mind, let's disclose our blood genetics. Most of us consist of portions of this and that ethnitiy, nationality, race, etc.

My mother's side of the family is 100% Ukranian and my father's side is some mix of English and German.

And that makes me roughly 50% Ukranian And Some percentages of English and German adding up to 50%, although it's not split even 25-25.

well said chris. It is often difficult for me to wrap my head around issues just outside of new york city. In a city of millions, i sometimes feel isolated from the rest of the country, let alone the rest of the world. It may sound ignorant but personal politics always comes first. Does this make sense?

The flag isn't for Europe but the European Union, even before there was the Euro. Now that the countries in the EU use the Euro as currency, that flag basically is for those countries.

Euskara , aka the Basque language, is most definitely not an Indo-European language; it's not related to any other European language, and likely predates all other languages in Europe.

I even used to know a few words of Euskara; picked it up in between bites at King Burger.

Lost the words due to reduced cognitive function resulting from clogged arteries.
