How to fight infatuation? A friend of mine said he was infatuated with a person at his work and he said he didn't need all that mess in his life (he's married, got kids, so does that person). They just hired that person. I didn't know what to tell him. I advised to change the job or get over it. Right?

It depends if she feels the same, then it's dangerous territory. I don't think I'd do anything drastic like changing my job though.

Yes if you find that you can't get over something, your best advise is simply to get over it.

However, if that doesn't work I would advise the following:

  • Wallow in it on your own
  • Go on and on about it to your mates
  • Drink more beer than normal
  • Stop eating
  • Try to entertain other thoughts in order to displace the infatuation from your mind.
  • Try to rationalise your thoughts in order to see how unrealistic they may be
  • Accept that unrequited infatuation is essentially the same process as grieving for someone who has died. Accepting that you are as likely to 'get over' the loss of a lover as you are likely to stop feeling sad about, say, the death of a relative is an important step in accepting the loss and moving on.
  • Put on loads of weight
  • Kill yourself

Hope this helps :thumb:

I'd advise him to get better friends who don't casually disclose personal details on a trivial little website like this.

Ooh I forgot one:

  • Seek advice from a disparate bunch of alcoholics, misfits and insomniacs, half of whom probably have it in for you anyway

A furious Power wank, daily in works toilets could help. Surpresses the urge to pummel the unpummelable/unatainable. Coarse remedy, but effective for half an hour or so..Tell him to make sure his town halls are empty at all times in her prescence.Damage limitation.

Anything else I can help with, just ask. :thumb:

Alternatively, tell him to get it out of his system.Bust a move on her, give her an Abe Lincoln and move on:laugh:

Well he said he tried to entertain other thoughts in order to displace the infatuation from his mind and didn't even care for that person. But it lasted only 3 hours, then he couldn't manage himself anymore to keep a proper behaviour.

I told him to find a new girl (oops, it's even worse!) or keep intensively focusing on other things.

Three hours is an impressive start. He might manage four tomorrow, five the next day...

Involving someone else in your problems is never a nice idea. You don't want to be taking your baggage from one relationship into another one. It's not fair either.

Did anyone mention suicide or murder???

How did his improper behaviour manifest itself?

Yes, it's true, he didn't listen to my advice and eventually came to a bitter end to realize that other person doesn't give a damn about him.

So how did it happen? It must have been a humorous sight...
