Just reading an artical about Formula 1's green intentions.
"F1 will need to use biofuels next year when a minimum of 5.75% of the fuel used in racing will need to come from renewable resources. Moreover, the FIA wants exhaust gasses and heat generated by the cars' engines to be captured and used for propulsion in 2011.
Err, didn't they used to do that before turbos were banned?
An excellent point well made.
They also demand flywheels! (they call them "kinetic energy recovery devices").
All looks very impressive, until you remember that the change in rules to finally, really, truly ban traction control (or "arcade mode" as they should be forced to call it), has taken YEARS to happen owing to teams whining and vetoing it. The chances of this all happening by next year are the same as super aguri winning the world title.
Want to save emissions AND make racing better?
Well, see all those huge drag inducing surfaces....fuckin ban them, a car without wings can do the same top speed as one with, with 1/3 the power.
Actually some wings are OK, it's all the fannying about on the overbody and the front wing that is the problem...plank at the front, plank at the back, tyres made of flypaper and the size of dustbins, sorted, any questions?
(I appreciate I just descfribed a 1984 Brabham, but so what)
