Anyone else downloaded it?
Not bad for free. Not bad at all.
Sounds just like New Order in parts though. Particularly the bass on Bad Days and the orchestration (get me) on Mis-takes.
Anyone else think that?

I downloaded it as well and I like that album a lot. Yes indeed, some songs sound like NO and Tim Burgess' voice sounds like Bernard's sometimes. Oh Vanity! is a very catchy song. :)
It reminds me of Some Friendly, which I always thought of as one of those albums to listen to all at once, rather than as a collection of tracks.
Really looking forward to seeing them next month. Might try for an extra date, as well as Aberdeen...

Downloaded it from the XFM site yesterday on Mr Nonsenses' recommendation and it's pretty good on first few listens. The Charlatans are never gonna set people's worlds on fire in terms of innovation but there's a couple of quality pop songs on there.
Mis-takes is highlight... really like that one.
The bassline on Bad Days sounds more of a swipe of PiL's Public Image to me; still a not bad tune though. Not gonna knock a record with a heavy New Order and the odd PiL influence ![]()

Hello hello hello.........![]()
I was actually surprised by how good it is. VERY New Orderish, though (not such a bad thing). You can hear New order on at least 2/3 of the album.
Dogs Bollocks.
Title track, Oh Vanity, This Is The End, Mis-Takes & Bad Days are the stand out tracks. Very much a tip of the hat to New Order, as we all know, Tim is a massive fan, but I was surprised to hear Hooky like bass feature in a couple of the songs, nice touch.
Looking forward to seeing them in Leicester in May with Cousin Stubbsy and Baldrick.
The whole thing is marred for me by the couplet which contrives to rhyme "me" with "paranoid schiztophrenic".
The problem with this is:
1, It doesn't rhyme
b, It sounds shit
and
iii, it's in poor taste.

Most definately. Hooky and barney are allover this disc.

i thought the last word was schizophreny, but that doesn't make sense
This album gets better and better, This Is The End is my "Turn" of the album, up there with some of the best stuff they've done (as are the two singles YCMP & Oh Vanity)
Cannae wait till the gigs in May.

Great minds,and all that..eh Shug
Some of the basswerk really is a Hooky-alike.
Wonder how he feels about it?
Tribute or rip-off? You decide!
There certainly proud of their influences.
Yes that's a nice way of putting it.
I can't wait to see how he holds it.

I'm sure Hooky is chuffed as fuck. Burgess has often cited JD/NO as his biggest influences.
Quality stuff...
Even went rummaging about upstairs in the deepest darkest reaches of the unorganised and messy section of the CD collection to pick out some old Charlies stuff... Was toying with the idea of doing Leicester, and having seen that it's a Saturday it looks like a more than attractive proposition... ![]()

The only New Orderish bit i've noticed is a brief snippet in the intro to Mis-Takes
.But i have had a few drinks on both occasions i've listened to it.Then again i have to be drunk to consider listening to The Charlatans
Mind you i think Cherry Ghost are ace so what the fuck do i know?
cherry ghost singles are ok but let down with the rest of album. anyway the charlatans album is ok.see new order in the general sound, singing and arrangement of the songs but not really any of hooky bass as some said here .still like the early albums more. anyway time for me to put head over heels cocteau twins on,some of the best bass ever ![]()
Didnt do anything for me, just seemed like any indie rock band from the last 10 years or so. However early 90's Charlatans has so much youthful exuberance but after then just seems to fall apart. Still anyone giving praise to New Order is a good thing.
