Bit Torrent Question

There are a few torrents uploaded as FLAC or RAR files. Can anyone tell me what these files are and what they stand for? These files always seem to have the most seeds. Also, is there a way to convert these files to mp3 onceI've finished downloading them?

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. Stick FLAC into Google and you'll be able to find many ways to play, burn and convert them.

RAR is a compressed file handler, similar to WinZip. You can use either WinRAR or later versions of WinZip to 'unpack' the files contained within each RAR archive.

Useful only on a Windows Operating System, I assume?

I think not, but i wouldnt swear on it. It's not a Microsoft product.

The Flac player you want is called Foobar, and is available free on the net.

FLAC, being free software (as in speech and beer), is probably illegal in the US, after all, according to Steve Balmer, people who use it are all commies and terrorists (incidentally, that includes NASA and the defence dept.).

But rar runs on everything, from X86 to Sun-SPARC.

To convert between formats can try. 1. Trader's LHelper. works, or 2.DB Poweramp.
