Agree with you 100% Johnnyboy. I too absolutely unreservedly unequivocally detest loathe and despise Coldplay with every ounce of my being. Even my two dogs start running around the room in a state of near frantic exasperation when they come on the radio. It's summat to do with Mr Gwynneth Paltrow's horrid whine-cum-yodelling voice. Yellow has got to be one of the most annoying songs ever - with lyrics so awful and so inconsequential that even Barney's trite musings sound coherent by comparison.
Coldplay are the epitome of safe conservative unchallenging aural wallpaper for the masses. A musical placebo if you like. How they ever got so gigantic is beyond my comprehension. Even Radiohead - a band too overrated for their own good - were never as stultifyingly dull as this - preferring to fuck around with their sound just to see how many of their purists they could piss off and alienate with each new album post OK Computer.
Anyway, compared to Coldplay - and to a lesser extent, insipid contemporaries such as Travis, Feeder, Starsailor and Razorshite, pretty much any other band worth their millions has to be infinitely superior - unless of course, you count the odious likes of the Stereophonics.
Right - back to The Cure..... why doesn't Robert Smith hook up with the Killers and bring out a collaborative single just for a laugh. The thought of the two whiney old jessies jerking off together in unison somehow appeals to the really perverse side of me.......
:p :p
