Success in a fucked up way.

My computer still wouldnae accept ITUNES even once I had the IPOD.

I posted the same question on a Celtic site - and through that downloaded a free programme called YAMIPOD. Only bastard is that I can only add music and not Pics and Vids as well.

DoN also suggested GETSHAREPOD(.com) but this is the same as the Yamipod and won't sync pics or vid.

I have currently added all the JD/NO side projects material onto me player as well as loads of other albums.

Fucking great wee things. Thanks to everyone for their help and tips, even if I did pay little or no attention to ye's in the end :spit: :viking:

I can't understand why iPods are more popular than generic MP3 players like my Creative Zen.

You just drag files onto it or sync with Media player or any other device. The sorting is done by Media player. It will happily suck files from anywhere and you can drag them back off again without messing about with more programs. I find the controls are far easier to use than iPods, although iPod users have struggled with mine (mostly when drunk in speeding cars).

Each to his own, I guess. I think I speak for all of us when I say that I am delighted for Shug and hope that he'll hav many happy years with his iPod.

What colour is it Shug?

I agree in principal. I had the Zen and then switched to the iPod and it can be a right pain - I like to think of my iPod as my ultimate point of reference, and not iTunes, and updating the iTunes library copying back from yer iPod is a right palaver.

However, I do remember about five years back when iPods were still very much unobtainable. Around the same time Saville did those talks in the 'design museum' (I think it was?) on the South Bank there was also an Apple display on in the next building. One cabinet had an iPod stripped apart and those things were a good 500 notes back then, weren't they? I can remember drooling over it cos I hadn't seen one up close before. Literally no one had them, and I couldn't think of any justification for splashing out on one at those prices. At the end of the day, they're not necessarily the best but they're certainly the original.

Dunno what the creative Zen is like Col, always fancied one, do you get loadsa playlife out of only charging it fer three or four hours like the Ipod?

Using that Yamipod thing I mentioned above, it's really easy for dragging folders (albums) on yer computer to it and it also lets you check song titles etc before adding to the ipod. I still have loadsa music to put on it - then i can start fucking about with playlists.

Work has BANNED radio's here, so I currently have THE FALL A-SIDES playing on me ipod via me right headphone :laugh:

BTW - It's black Col. Gonna get him a Green & White Hooped top with sunglasses if I can find one on E-Bay.

Al, I had heard that Apple actually paid Creative for nicking their operator interface. If that's true they're not the original at all. (And how ironic that Apple, who 'inspired' Microsoft Windows, should get caught out this way) (err, if it's true).

Apple have marketed the iPod briliantly, and one must assume that the R&D that's gone into susequent models must have reaped rewards in terms of new features, materials of construction and downright desirability.

And there's nothing wrong with owning things purely for desirability factor. Five shiny guitars in my front room mean that I'd be the last person qulified to critisize anyone for that!

Our IT manager just went on a mad rant when I told him I bought one of these, he prefers MP3 players.

Maybe the novelty will wear off, but the more I hear about the Ipod, the more I like. I need a decent docking station or alternatively I have gotta get the jack wires that go from the headphone socket to record player - then I will never need worry about my dodgy cd player in the house, it seems to never want to play CDs - though the sound on the thing is great, so that will save me buying a new sound system

Well, the ipod will play mp3's, and you can burn an mp3 CD from itunes, if you really want to be able to transfer file to an mp3 player, so I would say give it a shot. I have no complaints about mine, though I got it free, as a gift, so that helps.

far better to plug it into the amp using interconnects/ docking station thaan over fm - you won't get interference then, plus you won't need a tuner.

use an fm transmitter in the car, but use one that used the ciggy socket to power it & the ipod.

I don't have any interference with this one, plus it has the added benefit of adding bass, as FM stations tend to do. You can't play your music through 3 different stereos all at the same time in different rooms with wires (without spending an arm an a leg of course)

so your tuner is bass heavy? playing something over fm does not add bass.

it's the last fm play count for the last week - lists the top 7 most played bands & i liked the picture.

used to have a different one but people on here seemed to have copied it, wanted one that stands out so i can see my last post in a thread easily.

bit low scores last week as started listening to podcasts instead.

(you can use isproggle to send your playlist details to last fm on your ipod, builds up a record of what you've listened to & recommends bands to try based on people who listen to similar stuff etc)

I stand corrected. FM transmits higher end freqs, but modern tuners process the signal and so the sound comes out a little more bass heavy (not substantially, but enough to make a slight difference)...
