Jesus, I don't remember starting this thread at all.
I do remember trying to impress the American philosophy student who works in the off-licence by quoting Boethius and buying six bottles of Rioja. I remember seeing this advert and thinking that sexual tension between the student and the old lady and then the old lady and the builder (who actually looks back for a peek at the old dear's arse) was an unusual device for peddling this particular brand.
But I don't remember starting a thread.
Under the circumstances, I agree that I should be banned with immediate effect.
Probably worthy of a long ban but I vote for a reprieve for buying six bottles of Rioja on a Tuesday night

I drank one (1) of them when I got home and was in no shape to start a second, as Ally, Liam and Roy will be able to confirm.
The Boethius reference was a fairly ham-fisted and blatant attempt to look clever, but seemed to go down fairly well. She said she was studying philosophy and I asked whether she was enjoying Aberdeen, then said something like 'where do you sit on fortune's wheel?' She replied that she was halfway up and rising and then we laughed. That was all. Oh, no it wasn't. I told her that philosophy was invented in Manchester, which she disputed. I told her to go and listen to Unknown Pleasures and get back to me and she laughed again, then agreed that the cradle of philosophy was indeed Manchester and not Greece as some people seem to think.
It was only a quick chat, I didn't expect the Spanish inquisition.
